I suspect the above is talking about DoSF, if that's so, wasn't there a little

Just a comment :)

In the foreword of the collected edition of legends(at least that's
where I think I've read it), Margaret wrote she and Tracy felt they'd
told their story. They must have changed their minds. And perhaps a
fan or two have asked them to continue the saga?
And it was clear that TSR would not publish any material about the
future of Krynn, until DoSF came along. It was as if TSR felt they
could not mess with the future of Krynn, only with the past. The
future belonged to W&H. Then came DoSF, when W&H could finally pass
the future on to TSR. And boy am I glad they did. I love the 5th Age.

It was either we do Krynn's future or someone else does it. We wanted to
be the ones to tell the story.

I have my favorites: Lord Toede, the Galin books, The Legend of Huma and
the Kaz books, Theros Ironfeld, (of course!) and the Brothers Majere. I
have not read the Dwarven books, but I know Dan Parkinson's writing and I
would recommend them for that reason. Same with Mary Kirchoff, who was my
editor for a time, as well as a friend. The DL Atlas is great (but out of
print).
Others--either I haven't read them or it would be more politic for me to
keep quiet.
Margaret
I thought all 60 some odd books (they have grown in number) are
wonderful, except for Hederick the Therocrat, it just was terrible.

I agree, Dan Parkinson is an excellent writer and can be very funny.
Mary Kirchoff's writing is about as good as Douglas Niles'. They are
both "very good" but not "excellent" like Parkinson or "exceptional"
like Mr. Hickman and yourself.
How do you two write together? Isn't it hard to find time when you can
both sit down and write; or is it more shift based? Do you always agree
on where the story should go?

When we wrote DL and subsequent, Tracy was the storyteller and I was the
writer. We plot the storyline first, then I write and Tracy designs the
world (such as the magic system in DeathGate). However, in Star Shield,
the process was reversed. Tracy did the writing. We only ever disagreed
one time and that was over Laurana. I maintained that she would never
leave her position as general to go rescue Tanis. Tracy held that love
wins out over all and that she would. Which it did, of course. (I admit
that was after my divorce and I was a bit cynical at the time!)

What did you think of Black Wing? - if you've read it. I consider
it a favorite in equal rank to the Chronicles and DoSF. Of course, the
perspective of Krynn through the eyes of a black dragon isn't always the
most valiant thing, but it sure is entertaining...

Yeah..methinks it reached the 60 mark recently....dunno..haven't
counted..
Anways..i agree.. Hederick was kinda lame, but i preferred it greatly
to Knights of the Crown. Can ye honestly tell me taht book was well
written??? Ick...if anything, that was one of the worst books i've
read. The sequels got better as they progressed along the story, but
that first one was too awful. And, i think i've mentioned it before,
what is with Knights of the Rose? Am i the only one who noticed there
is quite alot of sex in it?
I haven't quite gotten there yet (in middle of Land of the Minotaur's)
but I thought Knights of the Crown was pretty good, it was the Knights
of the sword that board me.
Lee (Wiker) Hambly
I noticed alot of undertones in that vein in Before the Mask as well;
however, I found it a very interesting and well-written tale of Verminaard's
childhood.

Actually, I liked Knights of the Crown. I HATED Knights of the Sword and I
haven't read Knights of the Rose yet.

ick....i thought Knights of the sword was written better than Knights
of the crown. I'm not saying that KotC had a bad plot or anything..i
just didn'T like the way Roland Green wrote it. One reason that i
could have found KotS better was that i was finally used to his
writing..(it took me three tries to continue reading KotC). Knights
of the Sword, IMO, was written better, but i still can't shake that
feel that he'S just taking _straight_ from an AD&D game he might've
played. Thats the feel i got..and quite frankly, i didn't like it
much. I'm trying to think of an example..but it seems its escaping my
mind. One thing was the spells that were cast. In any other story, i
don't exactly remember them calling it what the name of it was...when
Raistlin cast a sleep spell, he says he put them to sleep. He didn't
say "Oh, i cast a Spell of Minor Sleep on them". I never liked AD&D's
magic system (one of the main reasons i hate their rules) so i guess
that can be an attribute to my not liking Green's writing style...

Hardly...still so much more that could've been written..a whole series
started from it..a world to explore thru roleplaying, stories to read
about...characters to meet...at the very least there was a puter game
(i still haven't tried the game tho..haven't seen it..): ) And just
think...there could have even been a copyright war between the fans
and the owner(s) of the copyrights to it! Doesn't that sound like
great fun? And then there's all the characters that we can make up
useless (yet entertaining) rumors about that get some people
inexplicably enraged! Just imagine all the fun we're missing! (:

I have the game! =) It's a lot like any other CDROM game that has come
out recently, but it had really nice graphics and it comes with a little
story inside of it. The story line was pretty neat, also. I liked it.
It wasn't as good as Betrayal at Krondor, though! That game just plain
ruled! (So did Feist's RiftWar & what he's done so far with the
SerpentWar Sagas.)

No I quite agree there sure was a lot of sex in it but the bit that really
knocked me back on my heels was when when the young Knight said said that
he wasn,t going to fuck the half elf and they were the exact words he used
I am not going to FUCK you. I had to read it two or three times to
convince myself it was really there. It really stood out and to my way of
thinking it has absolutely no place in a dragonlance story. Don,t get me
wroung I don't mind swear words I myself being Australian swear all the
time . But really in Dragonlance? I think not . Very bad form on your
behalf TSR and Mr. Green SHAME SHAME.
On another issue DoaNA is definitely one of the worst DL books written.
Right up there with Murder in Tarsis which is not DL at all, Stormblade,
Knights of the crown, and the entire Villains series.

I haven't read that book yet, but sex should be a natural thing on Krynn
just as it is on Earth. It hasn't been explored much, for many reason,
(it shouldn't be porn, of course) but perhaps there should be a god of
fertility/love (there is in every mythology I know of) for example. I
also wondered, while reading Dragons of WN/SD what Tanis saw in Kitiara.
It has been some years since I last read them, but Tanis's sexual
attraction to Kitiara was by no means explicit.

Have to apologize for posting that erronous piece of info. I'mterribly
embarrised. I should have checked my source before posting but I was at
uni. What it actually said in Rolands book is. I will not undress you and
tuck you in bed. It was past 1 in the morning when I read it and my eyes
were very tired and with the characters words and actions leading up to
that point I just assumed it was that terrible F word. It should really
have said into bed not in bed anyway. Anyway I'm terribly sorry I have
felt pretty stupid since I went home and checked what it actually said.
Sorry again.

I got to a point in Betrayal at Krondor where I just stopped playing. I
don't know why, it's kind of weird. I never finished it. With Deathgate,
though, I got stuck in the Kicksey-Winsey, and that's where I stayed until
I got the deathgate cheat-book (The Official Hint Book). I got bored of
that game, it was too hard without the book, and it was too easy with it.
They're, in my opinion, both very good games, though. The graphics are
both really well-done. (Actually, in Betrayal at Krondor, the characters
are /totally/ wrong-looking. They completely screwed up what Pub/Milamber
looked like.) I'd actually like to go back and play both games again. I
just wish I had a little more time to do so.
