The story about Loopy's daughter's dead goldfish didn't get much
better in the second telling. She's fourteen and he can't tell her the
fish died?
One of the things farm kids know is critters die. Bury the pets
and move on.
The livestock were largely born to be on a plate eventually. The
runts of a hog litter would be on the farmer's family's plates.
