I was listening to the nascent version of "Dig A Pony" on the Beatles
"Anthology 2" CD and was struck by how much that the odd-time-
signature opening bit sounds like something by early DEVO!

Are there any other songs out there that start off sounding like
they're lost spud-boy compositions, but then veer off into another
direction entirely? The White Flag version of "Wuthering Heights" (on
the New Wave covers disc 'Freedom of Choice') vaguely fits the bill,
but not really -- it's more like a combo of the melody from "Be Stiff"
and Kate Bush's lyrics as sung by Michael Stipe...
