I used to live on Roosevelt Rd., but I didn't get out often in that
direction, but I understand the business about road construction. So was
the poster saying that a bizarre bout of road construction took place ON THE
STREET IN FRONT OF this gas station, or what?

I was talking about Lake Street. Originally four lanes, currently
"improved" to two. Eventually it'll be 5 or 6 I'm sure, but it's been all
screwed up like a wet dream for about 6 mos and shows no signs of
stopping any time soon. And recently it also usually turns a
25-minute route leg into a fifty-minute trip for me, which pretty
much blows any shot I'll have of getting a good seeding at the 1999
Insane Trucker Summer Nationals.

The traffic in the western suburbs in general is getting worse on an
almost daily basis. Ten years ago, you could *park* in Naperville, for
example. Today? Park in Lisle and walk.

If you see me coming at you on the streets, the important thing is not to
panic. Remain calm, and drive just like I wasn't there, and the next time
you look up I won't be.

Yeah, I can read. I lived in Cicero, but I just meant to say I was familiar
with the GENERAL area. 20 years ago, that was.
But what about that gas station? Were you the original poster? Did that
mean there was a lot of construction on the road or sidewalk in front of the
station? Or was the station itself frequently or prolongedly torn up?

Well, I didn't want to give it away, in case they have another run of
"Free CD" mountain dew, but yeah, OK. It's the Bloomingdale Shell.

Yes.

Well, putting road construction on the scale of medical procedures, your
average lane-widening or intersection-improving is in the ideal case
(like the Hawaii Department of transportation, working at night and
leaving little or no evidence of any road construction at all) like an
outpatient arthoscopy or something. Your average Chicago road
construction is more like a hernia operation with a messy postoperative
infection.

Lake street, for a mile in either direction of the Bloomingdale Shell,
is and has been for the last six months, a coathanger abortion where the
mother dies slowly and loudly. That's the only way I can explain it.

I'm amazed at how difficult communication has been with hu...@interaccess.com

I didn't want to know the name or location of the station. I just wanted to
know what you meant in plain English.

You already conveyed that; that wasn't my question.

Finally -- THAT's what I wanted to know, minus the location. All you had to
say was, "The street the station was on was badly torn up for a prolonged
period for a mile in either direction." Something of a come-down in
relationship to the lucky bottle caps and the blowtorch escapade.
