So I got me one of them robotic vacuums. Not quite a replicant, but almost
there... right? (and not the pleasure model with extra suck)

Anyone else indulged in a robot or two?

But consider the possibilities! Erh - nevermind. No, really.

A programmable robot might be a lot of fun.

iRobot do one of those as well, based on the popular Roomba. There's a vid
of it somewhere on YouTube as well.

Go on, I have to know... which model did you get? Did you push the boat out
for a 500 series, or take the economy option of the 400 series?

So far, yes. Object avoidance is really the only issue, so if it's trying to
clean a room that it has issues navigating then you'll have to rescue it
e.g. rugs, tight corners. I've run it several times already, and it's picked
up a surprising amount of dust (one room had just been vacuumed, and it
still picked up a fair bit).

Of course it remains to be seen what the longevity of the beast is, but if I
could get the rather better and latest model Roomba for US prices I'd be
tempted....

Longevity schmongevity. If it means I don't have to actively hoover it's
paid for itself already!

What's the "battery" life like?

LOL. But if it only works for a week... or a few months...

> What's the "battery" life like?

About 40 minutes at a guess, from a 4 hour charge.

(a) I want more life, sucker
(b) Too bad it won't last, but then again, what does?

Choose one.

The robot said "beep".

I've also discovered the first issue, as it has this twirly little brush
that does edge cleaning. The little rubber grommets that hold the bristles
together at the base have come off two, which are meshing together.
