Barry was seen at Dublin airport this morning. I was just thinking, I hope he didn't set the alarm off going through the scanner with all the hardware he is packing in his hips now! :) My friend once had to go through 6 times and they still couldn't work out what was setting it off - she was so embarrassed.

Don't worry Irene, I have a metal plate in my leg but normally they
use titanium now and I never had any problems setting the alarm off
going through the scanner ;-))

I don't think he has any hardware in his hips, as he hasn't had them replaced, just reattached the muscles or somesuch.

I know. It was just a lighthearted comment in response to Barry's remark in the interview on This Morning when he said that his muscles had to be 'nailed' back onto his hips :)

Those new "backscatter" machines have warnings on them that you can't
go through with medical implants.

I don't have any medical implants, but I refused to go through it this
past Sunday and was instead given a pat down. I won't go through them
because I'm not on board with the whole naked picture thing, nor do I
know how harmful they might turn out to be.

Yeah, I'm weird. :p

I had a right knee replacement in 2009. The first time I flew, about 6
months after surgery, I set off the alarms and couldn't figure out
why. The TSA asked if I had coins in my pockets, jewelry. etc.. and I
replied no. He and I thought for a moment and he said "knee
replacement?" That's it!! I don't know what type of metal was used,
but it always set off the scanners. But, the TSA ladies couldn't have
been nicer with the wanding and the pat-downs. Since then, I've had my
left knee done. McCarran in LV has the full body scan and I'm quite
happy to go thru that. I do tell the agent, before stepping in, that I
had knee replacements and they're fine with it. No more pat-downs.

I wonder why some implants set off the machines but others don't. I
have a plate and screws in my neck and I never "ding" anything.

And going back to Barry's flying home ... I just wanted to comment
that I'm amazed he can sit on a plane that long. I mean, I'm sure
they're flying first class, but still ... that's a long-ass flight if
he's going straight through back to Palm Springs. Maybe they stopped
overnight in NYC first.

I wonder what he does while he's sitting on a plane that long? Does
he get up and do jumping jacks once an hour so he doesn't end up with
a blood clot? Is he reading books on his iPad? Or do his pals just
give him something to help him sleep through the whole thing? (If I
were him, that would be my vote!).

And I would imagine these guys are all a small, happy family ... but
man, I'll bet they can't wait to get away from each other for a couple
of days. Traveling with people for any length of time is tough. I
don't care how much you love them ... after awhile, they're gonna get
on your last nerve and you're gonna crave some quality alone time.

Happy Friday, everybody! Hope those of you here in the States have a
wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

I would hazard a guess that they all sleep if they can, or maybe they have online book things on their mini pc's or something, can't you just tell I am so up on technology, NOT. Either way it is a long haul flight for sure.

Happy Friday to you all too, and all you USA peeps, have a wonderful MD weekend, any of you doing anything special?

Don't know about certain metals. One TSA agent told me sometimes its
clothing that sets off the scanners especially when women wear tops
that have sparkles on them.

Before I flew to London last year, I was really stressed about the
flight; 6 hours in steerage! And, I'm over 6 feet tall! But the flight
wasn't that bad. Movies and television shows were free and it really
passed the time. Plus, having never been to London, the excitement was
overwhelming and I was traveling with a friend. On the flight back, I
thought it might be worse because the excitement was done. But again,
the time just flew (pun intended).
