I went over to the Barrynet just to see if there was anything new happening and I saw a few posts wishing Gary and his family well. Someone said Gary's wife had posted something on her Facebook page. I went to her page there but I'm not a friend so couldn't see anything. I hope all will be well with them.

He is currently working on a temporary contract, and there is a possibility he may lose his job in a few months. She's understandably upset, but I'm sure they'll get through it.

Thanks, Suzan. That's dirty pool!! So many are getting screwed this way. This economy has to pick up soon but it took years for it to fall and it will take years to recover. I had a friend who worked for IBM for 24 years and 9 months before he was due to retire, they laid him off. Hired someone else brand new and paid him one-third what my friend was making. They are such creeps but everyone is just trying to make it. I think Francine teaches school or does something with a school there so that will help with income if Gary loses his job. I know they aren't old enough for SS but he can apply for unemployment if it happens. Every little bit helps and I'll keep them in my thoughts hoping all works out well for them. JW
As one fan, I would be disappointed if Gary Oye was no longer my BarryNet
contact person. He has been a large part
of what has made BarryNet such
a good experience for me. He's always
super-prompt with a response to my questions
and his information has been precisely
correct. I think he's indispensible.
Maybe others that post here have had a different experience. Still, I hope
Barry's organization will consider every
possible option to keep it's staff intact
during this difficult economic cycle. Who
is it that keeps telling us "Everything's Gonna Be All Right"?
I don't think this has anything to do with Barry as Gary is not part of the bmifc or on their payroll. He never has been. It was a surprise when I found out and this came directly from Gary and Francine. He just runs the Barrynet for them.
Gary has a full-time job someplace else and I think this is the job they are worried about him losing. I just have to keep saying Everything's Gonna Be All Right! It's just a feeling I have and IF they DO lay him off, they will be losing a valuable employee. I guess loyalty and years of service (seniority) mean nothing anymore. JW
Thank you for explaining things for me! I'm
very surprised that this is not Gary's main gig. It seems like there's a lot of work
involved in what he does for BarryNet, although
it's a foreign world to me. Hopefully, his
future plans will allow him to keep doing what
he does there. I appreciate his work, even more so now that I have a peek behind the curtain!
For his other job, I wish for him a permanent
position with a fat raise! If the worst happens
and Gary is forced out, I hope his difficulties
are brief. He's a talented guy and this will take him far in whatever company he ends up with.
Yep, that song could become my mantra,
"Everything's Gonna Be All Right". Things do have
a way of working out eventually.
I am aware that Gary Oye's work with the BarryNet is a labor of love and his work is as good if not better than someone who was paid to look after the BarryNet.
I wish Gary good fortune to secure work elsewhere and have a high opinion of his talent. I am personally very grateful to Gary for posting my articles on Barry over the years in the articles and review link of the BarryNet and very much appreciate his enthusiasm, good will and dedication to the BarryNet which I hope will continue. Am I the only one a little uncomfortable with the fact that people here are discussing something that Gary's wife posted on her private (friends only) Facebook page? Yes, I know that nothing online is really "private". But repeating information here, on a public board, that is shared with friends on a private page seems wrong and intrusive to me.

Yes, I definitely get what you're saying. I
suspect that the folks who posted "information"
in this thread might know many more details
than what was actually typed. There probably
has been self-censorship in the name
of privacy. There really have been only enough details divulged to stop questions/concerns that
otherwise could have continued along a track of
speculation. Which would be worse? It appears that
this situation was already common knowledge on another
public forum, BarryNet. The cat was already out of the bag.
I actually have respect for the way it was handled here.
You are right to raise the question, Diane. I think
we can put the topic to rest.

Hello Diane,
Since many among us know Gary and Francine personally (for years) and they are great people, it's natural to be concerned about them. Francine may have posted it on her private page but people brought it out in the open on the Barrynet and the posts are still there so that means Gary is ok with the comments made or the posts would have been deleted. Some of us don't belong to Facebook but if we did and asked to be on Francine's friend's list, I'm sure she would accept us having met so many in the Barry fandom. Many have their pages set to private to keep the lunatics out and we all know there are a bunch of them!
They need all the suport they can get right now and many feel any kind of encourgement they can give will help and let Gary and Francine know people are behind them. Don't you think Francine knew it would get out no matter where she posted it? Debbie's right about this. At least knowing about this has stopped all the speculation and people's imaginations from running wild. We all wish them the best and I don't feel they mind if people know what they are up against. So many are in the same boat and we're all there for each other. JW
