I'll have to listen to the whole thing to be sure, but right now, I
actually think I'm lovin' it!
He seems to have hit this one out of the park It's romantic, doesn't
sound overdone, it's just sexy and subtle enough. I'm really excited
about this one and can't wait to hear the rest of it! These are great
songs and he appears to have given them some 'love'. :-)

I'm not all that impressed. guess it's just not what I'm looking for again.
sounds ok but he still won't relax and just sing it so my wallet won't
relax and buy it either.

It's okay for what it is: Simply more covers with lush orchestrations,
although he does seem to have a bit more passion on this one.

I'll see if it shows up on AOL's Listening Party so I can hear full songs.
What I'm waiting for is something like "Home Again" or "Can't Go Back
Anymore" or "Freddie Said" or "Shadow Man." [sigh]

But I'm sure with Clive's brilliant marketing sense of releasing it for
Valentine's sales, it'll do very well. QVC will probably set another record.
Everyone will buy love songs for their mother, grandmother, aunt, sweetheart,
etc. And something tells me people will be able to pick up a copy at his new
Pari$ "M" Store.

But with this cover album, please, stick a fork in it because it's really
done.

I do love these songs too Kim and unlike the greatest songs of the
decades series, these songs are truly standards that will stand the
test of time. Barry definitely sings with much emotion- especially in
"Where Do I Begin" (Love Story).
However, I was hoping that Barry would do different arrangments to
give these songs more variety in how they sound- there is a certain
sameness to these songs because there seems to be violin and piano in
each song and Barry's voice ssounding similar with each song, and no
additional harmonization of Barry voices or backup singers. Even with
love songs and ballads, the rhythm tracks should not sound so similar
for the songs to sound alike. I was expecting Barry to sing in more
up tempo in the Judy Garland hit "You Made Me Love You" that Barry
sings a little too soft and slow here.
I also am surprised that- unlike the decades series- Barry does
not have a duet track on this CD. I was also hoping that Barry would
pair one song with Michael Buble or Michael Feinstein who do the
American Songbook songs well or even a more ambitious pairing with the
dubbing of Karen Carpenter's voice in "We've Only Just Begun". Karen
and Barry's voices just blend so well; it would have made "We've Only
Just Begun" sound even better. On the surface, it appears that the
making of this CD was rushed.
To be fair, I only heard 30 seconds of each track on Amazon and
maybe Barry does indeed change the pace and arrangements more than I
heard on the samples. One positive.. Barry's voice fits like a glove
to many of these wonderful songs and, for a standards album, much
better than the greatest songs of the decades series. Marvin

Yes quite 'lush'. Barry's voice is still great at 66- despite the
fact he smokes like a chimney and has bronchitis on a very regular
basis. I don't know how he does it, he must just be a lucky man-
voice wise that is.

After listening to all snippets, I wouldn't really call any of these
songs the GREATEST love songs, I've heard better songs from Aaron
Neville and the Backstreet Boys. The songs might be great if you were
of 'that' generation and while most of Barry's fans fall into the
'older' category most of us probably aren't real familiar with any of
the songs except Love Me Tender and We've Only Just Begun and maybe
the one from Love Story- the rest, pretty blah in my opinion. I much
as I love the guy, I probably won't run out and buy this one. Though
like Scooter I'm awaiting his new, original album and hopefully it
won't be heavy on the 'lush orchestration'.
