Thought this was sorta interesting. This reviewer drew a contrast between
Garth Brooks' new show and Barry's show. It was also interesting that
evidently Garth can run his show long if he wishes .

Garth Brooks Is In Concert At The Encore In
Las Vegas & We Are Lucky To Have HIm

by Ellen Sterling

[snip to]

...on the stage of the Encore Theatre, Brooks appears with just his guitar
and, perhaps, the occasional guest.

Garth Brooks has the knack of drawing the audience in, of seemingly
speaking from his heart and quietly conversing, even in a theater filled
with 1,500 people. The person I went with quite correctly said, "I felt
like I was sitting in his living room with a few friends while Garth
played and sang and talked."

Barry Manilow's show over the past few years has been smilarly
autobiographical, a musical journey through his career. And Manilow's show
is lots of fun. But Brooks' takes it a step further with the intimacy of
the piece. Other performers might take a hint from him and do the smae
just the songs and guitar (or guitar player or piano or....well, you know
what I mean.)

Garth Brooks shares a bit of his world with his audience and the audience
members feel very privileged to be let in, even if it's only briefly. It
is this connection with the audience that makes his show extra special.

So, of course, go see Garth Brooks at Steve Wynn's Encore. A couple of
cautions: On Saturdays, if you go to the 10:30 show, rather than the 8 pm
show, you might see a longer set as, at the late show, there isn't the
time imperative to end there is at the early show.

Garth Brooks is one of the NICEST people I have ever met. He was at
the Songwriter's Hall of Fame the year Barry was inducted. He stayed
around afterwards and chatted, took photos. I wanted to take a photo
with him & Trisha and she was busy gabbing so he just stood with me,
my camera in his hand and waited. I walked away with such a great
feeling after meeting him. Just an incredibly warm person. Those
country music folk are just cut from a different cloth. It's rare
that you hear of one who isn't welcoming when approached by a fan.

Here's is one huge difference. Remember when Barry was doing two
shows on Saturdays?? So many complaints about how he could barely
make it through the late show or it was cancelled altogether.

Absolutely Maria- Lyle Lovett is the same way, if you can catch him
after the show, at the back stage door he will chat and take
pictures. As you said country stars are MUCH more appreciative of
fans.

My point was, Barry's always put out the idea that he's prevented from his
shows going long because of union rules. Garth can't go long on the early
show Saturday because his late show has to start at 10:30. But he seems to go
long if he wants to at his late show. So I guess maybe Barry doesn't want to
to long.

there is a twenty year age difference between the two though to be fair.
