The major question is: who decides who gets this award. Is it a public
voting, is there a jury or a poll by journalists and record companies?
Or: who has better chances: the boys, Britney or the more adult artists?

how old is it (my copy is from 1997, but it is the European Version as
usual)?
The rules for the Brit-Awards are: the album must have been released in
the last 12 month (or so). That's why there are no nominees for Robbie
Williams and Shania Twain.

The nominees and winners are determined based on sales and/or airplay from
mid-November '98 to mid-November '99, so BSB will definitely win album of the
year and album artist of the year! :)
The other 3 categories (artist of the year, group artist, and Hot 100 artist)
are questionable since the awards are based on the singles and album charts
combined together. Because IWITW and LTL were never released as commercial
singles, Britney (who has one #1 single) and TLC (who have two #1 singles) do
have a chance to beat BSB in these 3 categories. It's going to be close, so I
hope BSB wins them all!

There's no limit, so N Sync is qualified even though it was released over a
year and a half ago. Remember that N Sync's debut album sold around 2 million
in the last 6 *weeks* of 1998, so I guess that was enough sales to put them
ahead of Ricky Martin for album of the year.
You're right, it's sales alone! So we can actually determine all the
album-related awards right now by simply looking at this year's sales! I
double-checked the latest news article and it said "Millennium" has already
surpassed sales of 7 million, and Britney is almost at 6.5 million, so BSB will
win all the album-related awards. :)
It's the singles-related awards that we don't know who'll win because airplay
info is not released to the public. Like I said before, it's going to be close
because BSB didn't release IWITW as a CD single. They would have easily swept
all 5 awards had IWITW been released. Too bad...
BTW, anyone notice there are no adult contemporary awards this year?! I wonder
if they cancelled that award? I was hoping they would win the AC group award
again. IWITW is once again #1 this week, so they have a really good chance of
winning!
But seeing they changed the format and allowed radio only singles on the Hot
100, it still has a fighting chance. Artist of the year depends on who had
the highest ranking singles in the top 20 in terms of weeks....as I recall,
IWITW was like stuck at #6 for like 7 weeks and hovered in the top ten
almost all summer. AIHTG did pretty well too.

AC song they would have lost to Phil Collins anyway.
