On passive progressive 
  I have another question. I would like to know the meaning of the expression "he was being benched" in the following sentence. Three days later, Hayes told Kyle ***he was being benched*** because of the last will he had published in the senior prom committee’s “Memory Book.” I wonder if the progressive form is used to mean a future event and the phrase means something like "he was going to be benched."
