How to ?????????????
I have a 2" conduit (electrical ) about 160 ft under ground with 20 ft
outside NOT very deep in ground
i suspect 6-10 " deep max with water in it (ice) no wires. And a snake stuck
in it olso.
I have been tring to melt ice inside for some time now (2 days) no luck.
I tried heat guns, heat tape, air.
I heard you can hook up an electric welder to it and use pipe as a resistor
and melt
ice away that way
But I cant find welding company to do it. Called three difrent places and
got thre difrent
answers ; I don't have an old welder , I never done it , I can't do it
So my qestion is; Is there any more ways this can be done quckly before
spring time?
Please share your ideas ,expirience.
Magic S.

Have you tried pouring antifreeze into the conduit?

Make sure the welder is rated for continuous duty at the lower setting.

What problem is happening from it being frozen? Just Curious.

How about a hose pumping hot water, push the hose through as it melts the ice
then suck the water out with a shop vacuum while blowing hot air in from the
other end.

In Alaska we have used welders, pouring anti freeze into a pipe, and in
areas where the fire isn't a problem a burning coal bed. I have also used a
low plastic tent with a space heater blowing into it. The burning coal bed
is best. You just pile the coal in a row about 1 foot high by 3 foot wide
in a row above the conduit. Pour stove oil on the coal light it and wait 24
hours.
