Dear friend,
Being passionate about the compressed air technology, we are proud to
announce the following great news reference to the compressed air car MDI.
Last Monday 5th of February 2007, after many years of technical tests and
negotiations, an agreement has been signed with the leader company Tata
Motors in India to begin the production of the compressed air technology in
this country.
This agreement brings the fundamental and decisive impulse which allows us
to foresee the beginning of the non-polluting air car production at an
international level.
In this matter, we stay at your disposal to provide you with more
information about the different possibilities of investing in this great
project.
Thank you for your time and interest.
Best Regards,
Miguel Celades Rex
PRESS RELEASE
An engine which uses air as fuel Tata Motors and technology inventor, MDI of
France, sign agreement Tata Motors, in keeping with its role as the leading
company in India for automotive R&D, has signed an agreement, in yet another
exciting engineering and development effort, with MDI of France for
application in India of MDI's path-breaking technology for engines powered
by air.
The MDI Group is headed by Mr. Guy Negre, who founded the company in the
1990s in pursuit of his dream to pioneer an engine using just compressed air
as fuel - which may be the ultimate environment-friendly engine yet.
Besides, the engine is efficient, cost-effective, scalable, and capable of
other applications like power generation.
The agreement between Tata Motors and MDI envisages Tata's supporting
further development and refinement of the technology, and its application
and licensing for India.
Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Guy Negre has said, "MDI has for many years
been engaged in developing environment-friendly engines. MDI is happy to
conclude this agreement with Tata Motors and work together with this
important and experienced industrial group to develop a new and cost-saving
technology for various applications for the Indian market that meets with
severe regulations for environmental protection. We are continuing the
development with our own business concept of licensing car manufacturers in
other parts of the world where the production is located close to the
markets. We have also developed this new technology for other applications
where cost competitiveness combined with respect for environmental questions
has our priority."
- About MDI
MDI is a small, family-controlled company located at Carros, near Nice
(Southern France) where Mr. Guy Negre and Mr. Cyril Nègre, together with
their technical team, have developed a new engine technology with the
purpose of economising energy and respect severe ecological requirements -
at competitive costs.
- About Tata Motors
Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company, with revenues of US$ 5.5
billion in 2005-06. With over 4 million Tata vehicles plying in India, it is
the leader in commercial vehicles and the second largest in passenger
vehicles. It is also the world's fifth largest medium and heavy truck
manufacturer and the second largest heavy bus manufacturer. Tata cars, buses
and trucks are being marketed in several countries in Europe, Africa, the
Middle East, South Asia, and South East Asia and in Australia. Tata Motors
and Fiat Auto have announced the formation of an industrial joint venture in
India to manufacture passenger cars, engines and transmissions for the
Indian and overseas markets. Tata Motors already distributes Fiat-branded
cars in India. The company's international footprint include Tata Daewoo
Commercial Vehicle Co. Ltd. in South Korea; Hispano Carrocera, a bus and
coach manufacturer of Spain in which the company has a 21% stake; a joint
venture with Marcopolo, the Brazil-ba sed body-builder of buse More

"Air as fuel?"
This doesn't make any sense. Is the air being burned?
If its just a compressor with regenerative brakes, that is not "air as
fuel".
How does the compressor get pumped up in the first place?
Electricity?
Is there something that really is fuel, to be used for long trips?
> Is there something that really is fuel, to be used for long trips?
Money is the fuel. Stockholders money.
It was 7 years ago that MDI announced that a company in Mexico was
going to be building their cars. I wouldn't hold my breath that MDI
has sold a license to yet another company which will be building
their cars "real soon now".
That said, Tata Motors is looking at compressed gases, including
Hydrogen, as well as air. If they burn something, like hydrogen,
as well as use compressed air then they avoid the whole "my engine
block turned into ice" problem and get more reasonable range.

No.
It's a dead duck. Apart from where you need intrinsically safe transportation.
Graham
It only needs one, and Tata are pretty big. If they get a winner they can
turn it out in volume. Then others will take note and want some of it.

It looks like a goer after all this time.
See the web site, it explains it all. The engine can air, charged up super
cheaply overnight, or a air/petro hybrid using the "same" engine.
A dead end as foolish and wastefull as hydrogen.....and even more
inefficient!
What is needed are clean energy sources, not clean storage to ease
local problems
while worsening the over-all problem.

The air car is a very useful vehicle in certain
critical uses, especially where the vehicle makes
short trips into a small closed in building.
Air machines are used in coal mines and
other places where flammable fuel is not safe.
Some malls are so large that an indoor tram
would be useful, and air could be safer than electric.
But attempts to sell the car to the general
public may be futile.

Maybe not in the USA. In India Tata think differently.

There's no spare electricity in India to compress the air.

Tata have a research establishment in the UK.

Is there some significance in that ?
Graham
As others have pointed out, this has been talked about for years but
so far as I'm aware there has been no convincing demonstration of the
technology. Basic physics suggests that the claims made - here
http://gizmag.com/go/7000/ for example - are implausible. Is this
just a scam?
JerryC wrote:
The car actually functions. It's simply not a very practical or useful idea !
Graham
If you had asked me 6 or 7 years ago, I would have said that it might
work in theory but it would be only of borderline usefulness. Even if
everything worked just as claimed, it would only go slowly and have
an extremely limited range.
Today, more than a polydactyle handful of years later, it's got to be
a scam. They originally claimed the R&D was complete, that factories
were being built and cars would be sold within months. None of these
were true then and they remain untrue now.
There were aspects of the design I thought were good though. The
lightweight composite structure of the vehicles, use of one-wire
controls in place of complex wiring harnesses and other such
design changes to reduce labor costs and speed assembly. I also
liked their flexible mini-van style seating and cargo options.

I'll bet they don't meet modern crash standards.
Graham
"After fourteen years of reserch and development, Guy Negre has developed an
engine that could become one of the biggest technological advances of this
century. Its application to CAT vehicles gives them significant economical
and environmental advantages. With the incorporation of bi-energy
(compressed air + fuel) the CAT Vehicles have increased their driving range
to close to 2000 km with zero pollution in cities and considerably reduced
pollution outside urban areas.
As well, the application of the MDI engine in other areas, outside the
automotive sector, opens a multitude of possibilities in nautical fields,
co-generation, auxiliary engines, electric generators groups, etc.
Compressed air is a new viable form of power that allows the accumulation
and transport of energy. MDI is very close to initiating the production of a
series of engines and vehicles. The company is financed by the sale of
manufacturing licences and patents all over the world."

You've not worked with Indians clearly. They're even more full of never to be be

"News" seems to be immune to scientific facts. Sadly all too many with allegedly
'green' intentions are the same.
Graham
Its unfortunately a sad fact of life that if you tell people something
over and over again, and its what they want to hear, then it becomes
real.
It seems a common problem with Newsgroups also where the Newsgroup
is dedicated to a particular issue, that hearing the same thing over
and over makes it real.
A commen statement that is often heard on this Newsgroup is that Solar
Cell prices are about to plummet.
No doubt this because thats what people want to hear,so they
implicitly beleive it without actually doing any of their own research
to find out if its true or not.
Remember all the hype about the Steorn Magnetic Engine .
All gone very quiet now.
> It seems a common problem with Newsgroups also where the Newsgroup

Not necessarily.

I have been here for years, and I don't think that the average person here
believes that. We would all like to see it! But there are real reasons that
make it unlikely.

Again, I disagree, at least as it relates to thuis group.
> Remember all the hype about the Steorn Magnetic Engine .
> All gone very quiet now.
Yet again, there is little but scorn on this group for ideas that are "too
good to be true" or seem to violate the laws of physics. I remember no
generally accepted "hype" about that motor, and I have been right here for
several years.
Vaughn
I don't see one of the world's largest truck and bus makers getting into bed
with Steorn. See the Tata web site. I doubt Tata are into a scam, and I
doubt they have stupid engineers who can't assess the qualities of this
engine/car. There may be something in this. The science of some
individuals here is well...make your own mid up. The MDI engine is an
air/petro hybrid in the one unit as I believe it. The current electro/petro
hybrids use separate motors, the MDI is all in one unit.
Just letting people know of developments that's all.
I am the messenger. Don't shoot me.

People were just amazed about this Steorn motor. They were not asking for
money and inviting independent people to test it. This showed some
credibility, although no one believed it would work as no other motors of
this type have supposedly worked.
The more you know about physics, the more you must realise man knows only a
fraction of how things work.

But air is free, and can be effectively used in brake regen, etc.

Tata have a research place in the UK and other places. Indians are not
stupid people as the massive industrial growth of the country clearly
demonstrates. BTW, I have worked with Indians.

So what ? Water is free to but you can't run a car on that either.
In either case an external energy input is required, in the case of the AirCar
to compress the air, amd that's avery lossy way to store energy. If it had more
range than a battery EV it might be worth it but it doesn't. In fact the
'performance' is a total joke.
Graham
And we are just the folks who have been trying to bring you the news about
the laws of physics, which say that compressing air is an inefficient way of
storing energy.
Vaughn
It is not "MAN" who has trouble with the laws of physics, it is News.
Vaughn
Tell that to Tata, not me. BTW, the engine is a petro/air hybrid.
You need to find out more about how little we know.

No royal "we". It appears we have a right collection of Einsteins here

Einsteins and idiots, and many in between. Don and I are in-between, but

Can you point to it please? And tell Tata, one of the world's largest truck
and bus makers, too. I'm sure they would like to know.
This air propelled hybrid petro/air car actually works and there are
countless testaments to that. Yet despite that the Einsteins here say it
can't possibly work at all. I prefer to believe Tata and the likes. What is
it? Never heard of Tata in the US so they don't exist and can't know
anything?
Testaments are only as good as the observers. Sure, the car works on
compressed air for about 4 or so miles. This range is an order of
magnitude less than MDIs claims. This is why people have pointed
out that MDI was making false claims. MDI now completely lacks any
credibility because they have continued to make false claims for many
years in a row.
I don't know about Tata but they don't seem to be making the kind of
wild claims that MDI is famous for so perhaps they'll actually do what
they say they will.
I don't think there is any question that the engine will burn gasoline.
This is not an uncommon thing for car engines. :)
Anthony
No one has claimed that it wouldn't work. The problem is practically
everything, including flywheels works better. So far nothing but hype of the
Popular Science variety.
I know of Tata- I didn't see any press release from Tata with regard to this
deal. --

That is what Tata say. They are a big auto maker - not known in the USA

The Tata announcement doesn't say it works. It says they are investing
in further development. One could read between the lines to think that
this means Tata believes the engine has promise, especially in their
search for engines that work on various compressed hydrocarbon gases.

"has promise"? so they must know it works them. I'm sure they have had
their hands on one.
One could read between the words of what I've said, and what Tata has
said and what MDI has lied about and come to any conclusion they want.
The Tata announcement doesn't say it works.
If it worked then why would it need development?
