Those of you located in the UK you may be fimilar with a industrial
small diesel manufacturer known as 'Lister' based in England.
I may be purchasing a twin cylinder Lister generator (15 HP) and this
motovated me to investigate the issue of burning furnace oil. Lister is
the only
air cooled small diesel engine I know of that would be small enough to be
practial for single dwelling residential usage.
- Does anyone know of other small diesel engine manufacturers?_-

Universal, Yanmar, Westerbeke, Perkins, Ford... Try looking under
"Marine Engines" or "Proprietary Engines". Popular opinion has Yanmar
and Westerbeke as the best, Universal as the worst, and I'm not sure if
Ford is still building small diesels. Most of these will be
water-cooled, which makes for a quieter engine.

Yammar also makes small diesel engines single cylinder as small as 5 h.p.

All alongside the roads are portable electric light signs directing you
around construction areas. They use small diesel powered generators.

That indeed may be true in the UK, I really don't know. However, in the
States, the ones you see at construction sites are gasoline-powered units in
the 8 - 12 HP range. (Information provided by a state DOT employee.)

I hope you are thinking of a more modern version than the likes we see at
stationary engine rallys. These buggers make a considerable amount of
noise, as much as the Lister A and D petrol engines that I have seen.

Another Manufacturer is Gardners; I think they are still trading at
Patricroft, Manchester UK. I shall ask around and let U know if they do
diesel genies.

Are you thinking of furnace oil as in Red Diesel which has less 'lets fill
Gordon Browns coffer' tax than road or white diesel?
