Thanks very much to E.P Continentals in Florida with Sue as President who
gave me a really warm welcome.
A special thanks to Kay and Noel Johnson who went out their way to help
my family and I and to make our meeting with them so enjoyable. What a
great club and I'll see then in '97.
Kay gave me full instructions on how to get to all the Follow That Dream
sites and I made every one with the air conditioning on full and two
screaming bairns in the back of the car.
If you're thinking of doing it then don't wait - you can do it in a
weekend and find a great place to stay overnight.
Don't forget to go into the Sun Trust Bank in Ocala - after my visit,
they are well aware of their responsibilities to communicate with Elvis
fans and I've told them you'll all be coming.
A little aside. Being a complete dickhead, I locked myself out my car
with the engine running and Elvis full blast on the tape in a mall car
park in St Petersburg. Luckily, I was carrying the baby in my arms at
the time. So I go up to two complete strangers and ask them to drive me
five miles to my hotel to get the spare key. Never one to miss an
opportunity to mention Elvis, I mention I'm a fan (no need to really, I
realise later, I've got my Elvis socks on). The guy says, oh Betty back
there (wife, in the back seat) is the one to talk to about Elvis - she
used to really be a fan.
Now this woman has no need to impress me, I'm getting out in five
minutes, she says she's just a month younger than him. How do you know
that? I ask. Well I saw him when he was young and he mentioned his 20th
birthday. Yeah sure I think - where did you see him I ask. Well I'm
from Texas originally, just a small place. What's the name of it? Oh
you wouldn't have heard of it, Odessa. If you ever come to Scotland ...
thanks for the lift... bye. Back to the hotel room, Guralnick's book
out - start of 55... January.... short tour of Texas... Odessa - Oh my
god and I've let her go without getting her name.
See the USA the Elvis Way - the only way.
Keeping Elvis #1
