This is just a lightweight post, but I find it interesting all the
same.

As far as pictures and posters of Elvis go, I think I've got it down to
an acceptable level at my place.

The walls aren't plastered, it certainly isn't a case of 'Elvis
everywhere'.

All I've got is in my den, three classic posters side by side, with
each one superbly capturing him at his best, in the three main era's. A
b/w shot of him holding a guiter in the '50s, the '68 Comeback close-up
of him sitting down with Scotty's Gibson, and that magificent Aloha
shot with the red lei around his neck.

I was wondering what other people here have in their homes? Pictures on
mantle pieces (hopefully not on bedroom nightstands!), posters or
paintings on walls...

Who has too much, who has too little and who has it just about right?

I can remember in the 1970s, in the middle of the Kung Fu craze, going
to somebody's house and there being stacks of Bruce Lee posters all
over the walls of the living room. They weren't even framed, they were
ripped straight out of magazines and held up with BluTack, and it
wasn't the kids who had put them up, it was the parents.

As far as Elvis goes, I went to another house some years later -
sorry, but I have told this here before - which was owned by an area
Fan Club leader, which was done up in a similar way. We went into the
kitchen and there was a free standing cupboard, similar to one owned
by my mother. My mother used hers to keep baking ingredients and
utensils, but this couple had filled theirs from top to bottom with
Elvis videos.

So I've always been very careful about what goes up in our house. In
short, there's nothing at all on display. Nobody could come in here
and say it was owned by an Elvis fan. I do have a loft room where all
my CDs and books are kept, but even in there it's limited to one
photograph frame containing two B&W shots, given to me by some well
meaning friends. On the wall is an Elvis clock, bought by the same
people. There's no battery in it.

It's not that I'm in any way defensive about my hobby - plenty of
people know about it - but it's a family home and stuff like that is
just tacky. I think having a couple of things in the Den is fine, but
once it spills out into other rooms, then the next step is an
appearance on Ricki Lake with the caption "My Husband Thinks He's
Elvis".

My office houses my Elvis collectibles. I do have quite a bit on my wall,
as it does have an Elvis theme, but I do believe I've kept it "tasteful" and
not cheesy. It makes working at home a little more enjoyable.

Funny you should mention that...when I was younger I had quite a few
Elvis posters around, and just last week I was going through some stuff
I had stored at my office and came across my old round "The King Lives
On" Elvis waste can, with all the old posters rolled up inside. I
hadn't seen any of that stuff in years, so I brought them home with me
to go through, but haven't sat down with them to see what's still
there. I might try to do that today.

One thing I did have back then was a collection of like 12 posters I
bought from that Paul Lichter crook called the "Elvis Book Of Days" or
something like that . It was advertised on television in probably
1978, I'm sure it was overpriced, and only a couple of the posters were
good pics, but I did have those up when I was young. I was thinking of
using them again in my garage, that might be pretty cool to have an
Elvis themed garage. Anyway...

The only thing I have up now is really a great conversation
piece...here in Charleston, SC, we used to have this folk artist named
Kata Billups who used Elvis as the main subject in her art. It was
always very creative, and lots of the bars and restaurants displayed
her work. Each piece usually had some kind of social commentary using
Elvis for an example, and they were embellished by little ornaments or
things hanging from the frames. Really neat stuff, and for my
birthday about 10 years ago I got one as a gift. Mine is "Thou Shalt
Have No Other Gods," and it is basically a woman on the left side in a
polka dot dress lovingly holding a picture of Elvis with a guitar, and
on the right side is an Elvis holding a picture of Jesus in front of an
altar with a cross on it. Attached to the frame is 2 small crucifixes,
a very miniature copy of an old teen magazine cover featuring EP, 2
metal dollar signs, and a tiny plastic champagne glass, with "Thou
Shalt Have No Other Gods" scrawled on an oval tab attached to the top
of the frame

I'll post a couple links to her stuff...(the one I have is ELS15).
I've seen her stuff on ebay.com before as well.

This kinda veers off track, but I'll go ahead and stick it in here....

The only other Elvis I have on display right now besides a cd or book
lying around is a card. This is kind of following up on something I
posted here a while back...I had this 19 year old college kid from
Mexico who stayed in my guestroom when a friend of mine couldn't finish
renovating some apartments on time or something and they needed places
to stay for a couple weeks. Since I speak Spanish, he ended up here
and it was kinda neat because we ended up having some great
conversations, and he cooked some incredible Mexican food, which I
love.

Anyway, as I posted before, this kid became fascinated with Elvis while
he was here, and has even come back since just to watch "Thats The Way
It Is" again. He had heard his father in Mexico mention Elvis name,
but he had never seen or heard him before until he saw and heard him
while I was watching "Aloha" one night while he was staying here. He's
been gone a while, and it looks like next semester he'll be
trasnferring to another school in Florida, but I burned him a couple of
discs to take with him.

As a "thank you" note for letting him stay here, he found an American
Greetings Elvis card that features an "Aloha From Hawaii" shot, framed
by this ornate gold border. I have had that propped up next to my
computer in the den for the last few weeks, and doubt I'll take it down
anytime soon. That also reminds me, I was shopping with my mother
yesterday, and we saw some other Elvis cards, these were all black and
white, and as we walked by them she said "he was so good looking...."

The one other thing I have on display is this little glass like thing
with a "Spinout" era Elvis head carved inside, and it sits in this
small black base which when turned on casts colored lights upward,
making the Elvis head slowly change colors. A friend of mine saw it
sitting near the register in a Chinese restaurant, and offered the
cashier $20 for it, knowing I would get a kick out of it. It is kinda
neat.

Apart from my TV Room bedroom wall (which I've posted a link to here too
many times) I have nothing Elvisy at all anywhere else EXCEPT a framed
'Florida Theatre' poster. This one
http://www.miamisdesign.com/2005/substor9_16/ELVISPOSTERFLORIDATHEATRE.jpg
Somehow, this is okay for me. A framed picture of him looking sexily at the
camera would be horrible, but this, is somehow less wierd.

It's like a bloke could have a movie poster from Goldfinger on his wall, and
it'd be kind of okay, but a Sean Connery picture like this
http://www.spotlightcd.com/hallfame/portraits/sean_connery.jpg
Would be a bit wierd. You reckon?

Very artistic suave, stylish but also understated. Just what I'd expect
from a guy who wore a suit to Graceland.

Actually if you analyze this photo it can pretty much tell a man what
his sexual orientation is!

Ok, if you look at the poster and find yourself focusing on his right
hand, then you'd pretty much be hetero, as that is a red blooded man
with his hand firmly attached to a womans breast if I ever saw one!

However if you are a man and you find yourself focusing on his left
hand...

I only have music and some movies. I have a magazine of Graceland sent
to me by a very special friend, and I'm happy with that, although I
would like more movies and more music, which is happening. I've been a
fan all my life, too, I guess I've just never been into posters on the
walls or cups, or any promotional things, just me.

I just have a scrapebook of things, and one favorite shot of Elvis on
stage with his red Chow-Chow. Which is sitting on my desk. As much as I
love the man, who I am reflects on my decor.
I have a beautiful painting of my first shaded silver persian, era 1969
(from the James Bond films) done by Kenny Soo who did it as a favor, he
does human portraits. I have little mini galleries of my pets. I like
albums, I don't like seeing "People" on the wall! Typical Genie reply,
but then life is too short not to be surrounded by what you love the
most.
The only large piece of art work is "The Guardian" huge painting of
Lowland Gorillas.
Otherwise, I love the very old fashioned artwork of the Victorian eras.
Many of which contain puppies, and kittens.
Also many Mirrors. I love the reflective depth that mirrors add to any
room...and before anyone gets fussy with me, I deliberately hang them
high, not trying to look into them....lol

I used to have a shrine here in our office, but I realized long ago it
looked cheesy, so now I only have a large b/w framed picture of Elvis
playing the piano in the 50's that I received as a gift. Oh, and up
til recently, I did have a large E trash bin, but my boyfriend talked
me into finally letting it go...in peace.... Everything i have except
for that picture is now packed away and to tell you the truth, I don't
miss it one bit.

The attic in my parents place has quite a bit of Elvis stuff stashed
away.

Stashed away it will remain, now that I've moved on with life!

My posters in my den (the den is my own private space in the house -
supposedly what every man needs and wants - only thing is though, I
never go in there!) are of the smallish variety, more like large
pictures than actual posters.

I think it's done with taste and a fair sense of decorum! Something us
Elvis fans are not widely known for!!

My bedroom looked like the stereotypical 70's bedroom if some film set
designer designed it today for some 70's movie with an Elvis theme. I
had the walls plastered with every available Elvis poster available at
the time. My prized possession was the Elvis black light poster that was
just called "Rock Star". Along with the Elvis posters, there was also a
bunch of "black light" posters, girl pin up posters including the famous
Farah Fawcet poster plus another giant Farah poster and a few Beatles
posters. Also included was 3 posters of my other idol as a kid; Evel
Knievel! My other Elvis schwagg included all the books, magazines,
framed pictures and of course records. I had the obligatory black light,
"Lava Light" and strobe light. I had a royal blue long fur bed spread.
Brown deep shag carpet. I also had a large bright orange furry poof
chair similar to the "Lovesac" chairs that are basically very large fur
bean bag chairs filled with shredded foam rubber. After Elvis died, the
amount of posters and stuff really got out of control and I also added
several of the Elvis whiskey decanters. Now, most of the posters didn't
survive but what I have left is stored. I now have no visible Elvis
stuff except when I leave a CD cover out.

Some of you have commented and wondered why I speak ill of Lisa Marie and
her mother. The following is a good example of what they are. Looks like
Lisa and her mother have taught Riley to be just like them.

There is a picture with the email but for some reason it wouldn't send on
aek but the description below of what is taking place really explains it.
Those comments were all written byt the person who emailed me and he is
basically cutting & pasting from whatever publication they were printed in.

This Is What Moms Are For???

Filed Under: Love Line > Ryan Cabrera

Lisa Marie Presley holds back her daughter's hair as she - Riley Keough
(17) - makes out with her boyfriend Ryan Cabrera (24).

Keeping it all in the family, the trio hit up the Metal Skool show at the
Key Club in West Hollywood on Monday night.

Wonder if Lisa Marie bought Riley some booze too???

That's what (Hollywood) moms are for!

I go look at the showroom everytime we go to Vegas. I saw Elvis in 73
there and then went back in several times in the 70's thru the 00's. The
showroom looked the same until about 93 when they had some rollar
skating based show there and they put in stadium seats and tracks for
the rollar skaters through the audience. In 88 I saw Wayne Newton there
(no comment!). In 89, "Elvis the play" was performing there and they had
put up the old Elvis marque' for it which was kind of spooky when you
drove by. There used to be an office right by the door to the showroom
that had all kinds of pictures of Elvis in it. It was still there until
93.

I've got two framed items on our TV/stereo wall, a signed International
Hotel item, and a SUN record from Elvis' personal record collection at
Graceland. Both items includes pictures.

I keep most of my music stuff in my home-office, including most of my CDs.
No Elvis pictures on my office walls, but I've got a couple of E related
pictures and certificates etc. I also have a built in glass cabinet in one
of the shelves at my office where I keep some E related memorabilia on
display.
