I dive a lot for artist supplies and like to
make odd electric table lamps. I have done
the following lamps:

Several electric hedge clipper lamps

Mix master lamps with dimmers where you
change the beater speeds

Toilet flusher lamps - Sloan Valve/vacuum
breaker type usually found in restrooms
above urinals (nice chrome plating)/push
0n-push off switch in flush handle.

Computer keyboard/electric iron lamp
with compact fluorescent bulb and
styrofoam mannequin head (used for store
display of hats) shade.

Busted clarinet stem lamp with 8-track tape
player base.

Gumball machine spotlight lamp with
dimmer where you turn the coins.

One lamp with guns, shade made of glass,
red plastic tail light cover fragments and
broken sunglasses

I am always looking for new ideas/
combinations of junk

I would also love to see them. Have you taken any pictures?

I was finding a lot of useful waSte at Aaron Bros -- all over the Los
Angeles area. [.+ other towns ?.]

One day, a D was FULL of 30" x 40" matt boards. Many colors; metallics,
marble patterns, etc. I could only carry about fifty sheets, on my
small hand-truck.

Also a lot of picture frames, all sizes and types (.broken glass.) --
various conditions.

The rest was mostly useless trash -- except when they are re-stocking
new products, and dumping old use-ables.

They got nasty, and start'd LOCKing their Ds. Look for them's that are
too full to lock, or they forgot to !

I only do local DD, one or two mile round-trips = time and distance
since I travel by foot & bus.

Granada Hills = not much . . . occasionally good scrap materials, and
personal dumpings.

I love all that matt board! We have framing stores here that toss out large
amounts of that and float board. Makes really great material for kid school
projects too. Sometimes you can swap neat frames with unbroken glass.
Especially standard frames/glass. Dive Daily! BBB In article

B-3 eck . . . remind'd me of my best finds at A-Bros -- before the
lock-up.

Large sheets of clear plexiglas. Assorted sizes, some pre-cut to
standard small frame sizes.

Used many to replace the broken glass from recover'd frames. Safer to
USmail the frames with plastic instead of glass, and lighter / cheaper !

If you find or buy ( huh ? ) plexiglas, or other sheet plastics -- the
best tool to cut sheets is a special knife from X-acto.

It has a hook-shaped blade, that scores the plastic (.use a
straight-edge / steel ruler.). Then "snap" to break the cut -- similar
to glass-cutter tool. Handle has finger grooves for good grip.

Sorry, you'll probably have to BUY (.the bad word.) the knife -- art
supply stores with a good selection of X-acto products.

One of my great hauls, actually found by a friend I've been diving with
since I was 13 and he was 10, was a load of sheet Plexiglas. Size ranged
from window sized up to 3ft x 6ft, and some was up to 1/4" thick. We
had to cut that stuff on the bench saw. Reglazed a lot of windows with
it, and he also used some for framing art.

The one framing shop on my run throws out lots of matte board with oval
cutouts. Fun for making cheap pictures look fancy.
