In addition to that, DTV has 3 satellites at 101 degress, with a
maximum of 16 transponders each.

Spot beams enable the reuse of transponder channels over
different geographic areas.

so, back when I was an original subscriber and instaled systems, all
the transponders were hitting really high numbers.
DirecTV started using spotbeams on Dec 27 2001, this included all 41
of the markets currently being served. They claim to be launching
another spotbeam sat later this year, to peovide the same capability
at the 119 degree location, and adding even more locals markets).
At this time, DTV has 63 locals markets (44 on spotbeam) and plans to
add 38 more). These (and some of the others) should be on the 119
spotbeams.
