Doctor Who celebrations gather pace
-----------------------------------
The second volume of the seventh season of Doctor Who is due out
[on DVD] at the end of next month as more details begin to emerge
of the BBC's 50th anniversary celebrations for the iconic sci-fi
show.

Although release dates are still to be confirmed, the new series
- the first to feature the Doctor's new companion Clara, played
by Jenna-Louise Coleman - has been provisionally scheduled for a
29 May DVD and Blu-ray release.

According to Executive Producer Steven Moffat, the series will
introduce new monsters as well as resurrecting fan favourites the
Ice Warriors and Cybermen; guest stars include Richard E Grant,
Dougray Scott, and Call the Midwife's Jessica Raine. "And in the
finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed,"
Moffat adds. "If this wasn't already our most exciting year it
would be anyway!"

The BBC has also announced a spectacular three day expo in
November in London, which is expected to attract 15,000 fans from
around the globe. That may be out of the reach of most Kiwi fans,
but at least they will be able to console themselves with the
ongoing programme of classic reissues. Earmarked for release in
May is a special edition version of Doctor Who: The Visitation,
which dates back to 1982 and features the fifth Doctor, Peter
Davison.

Also in the works is a special edition version of the 1970
classic Inferno starring the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee.
