Time Agents
"So what *are* Time Agents?" Rose asked Jack.
"Basically, a bunch of guys who know how the timestream
should go, and keep it that way. The Agency fills the gap
left by..." Jack hesitated, "the Time Lords. Say, is he
*really*..."
"And you quit? Funny, it sounds like the sort of
swashbuckling stuff that'd appeal to you."
"That's what I thought." Jack grimaced. "But it's *dull*.
Always checking before you do anything, constantly reassuring
the brass that the universe hasn't imploded. It's a job for
uptight obsessives, like my old bunkmate."
Rose raised an eyebrow, "When you say 'bunkmate'..."
"Nothing like that. Relationships would have interfered with
his precious duty." Jack shook his head. "I shouldn't be so
hard on him. He's a good guy, and he died twice in nasty
ways."
"Twice?"
"Yeah, one of the hazards of paradox-duty. If you ever meet
him you can ask about it. Name of Daniels."
