ok so i'm officially delurking here now. i'll probably gewt flamed but so
what, i'm too fucked up to niotice at the point anyway.

so the thing i hate about california, sacrqamento especially is all the phaqing
cops following you down the streets at 2 am. i just managed to get a fairly
good buzz going when i have to quit [till i get home] cause it's 2 am in the
people's republic of california...it shouldbe illegal to close at 2 am but
there you are. anyway so i'm followed halfwy home by like three policemen very
politely and discreetly on DUI patrol and it takes them TEN BLOCKS before they
realise that i'm walking home and the people they should be concerned about
were the ones involved in the gunshots on 17th and P but since i'm obviously
buzzed they follow me. wankers. i'm a san franciscan and don't even know HOw
to drive but i seem like a good target cause, well, it's friday and they're
bored. they don't even try to hide it anymore. they park half a block from
the press club...part of the Barmuda Triangle [three really divey bars in
downtown sacramento if you care] and just wait for people like me to stagger
our happy asses home so they can get their quota and get the toaster oven or
whatever. gah.

anyway i'm sure i had a point at the start of this but the guinness and jager
and dead nazis and whatever else i drank have eaten my braincells at the moment
and i can't believe i'm on aol but it's the only password i can remember. fuck
it i'm moving to holland. the end.

Allow me to be the first to welcome you, Goth. Since you're in the bay area, you
may want to hood up with Fetus, SteaminJ and company. Very nice de-lurk, I thought.

Hell, I live close enough to a bar to ditch out for a cold beer while
on a conference call. Well, I haven't actually proven that yet, but I
seriously considered it tonight. Got stuck working all night. Hmmm,
what's the distance limitaion on ethernet?

Youse can run a 10 baseT cable about 100 ft off the hub. If it goes thru
electrically noisy places like a power conduit use cat 5 shielded cable.

-G
-Wire that bar, wire this bar, fu@k wire them all.

Just remember that an ethernet connection is liimited to five segments for any
given connection...

For some reason, I was assuming that Nips was referring to a wireless LAN. We
tested a few. Not horrible, but the distance performance was no where near
what the mfr. claimed. Also, it apparently takes little more than a Native
American three counties away doing a rain dance to knock you off the
connection. However, if Nips is using it in a bar, that might not be a bad
feature.

I've considered trying a wireless solution, but as I'm on the backside
of my building, only on the second floor, and around the corner (and
across two rather wide streets) from the bar, it most likely won't
work. Though if I ever get a job like my friend has, where I never go
to the office, and only have to go to client sites a few hours a week,
I'll look into it in more detail. If all else fails, I could get
another ISDN line at home, and one at the bar, just work it that way.
Get an ISDN PCMCIA card for the laptop, and set my ass at the bar.
Hmmm, maybe consulting isn't as bad as I thought.

Jeremiah
or I could just install a Keg-o-rator in the apartment
