I can't find any posts in alt.disney.disneyland and none of my posts are
showing up there either.

Who killed it?

Also, I only see two posts here as well. What's going on?

a.d.dl may have gotten whacked in the recent rash of anti child porn
centric newsgroup eradications. Some isp's simply cut newsgroup
service, others killed the alt.* arm, some killed binaries, and some
when through and carefully pruned select newsgroups. As a result of all
the turmoil, any alt.* group is now in a funky way, and what - if
anything - is available to you depends on the service you go through.

And on my ISP's server, a.d.dl only has 42 messages going back about 8
months. a.d.dl has been near death for a couple years anyway.

Don't know. I can subscribe to it so my newserver hasn't deleted it,
but they certainly have killed the feed. All of the posts on it are
from 2006 and earlier except 3 from May 2008 that appear to be automated
or from some moderator if such exists. I used to enjoy it. I have not
checked with google groups to see if current posts show up there.

It appears that someone issued a new control message that changed the group
to moderated status. I don't know who did it, or why, or how to undo it.

The only people who might know how are in alt.config. Unfortunately, they
aren't very helpful. Perhaps if enough people were to go there and post
requests for help, they might do something.

Or maybe we should just forget about a.d.d. and post in
rec.arts.disney.parks? Verizon and Time Warner recently stopped carrying
alt.* groups, so maybe we're better off.

What do you guys think?

Should we save a.d.d.?

If this is a legitimate complaint and not just nonsense spamming, you need to address this with whomever provides your newsfeed. If they can't resolve it, try switching to motzarella.org a free usenet feed for text groups from which this is being posted.

There's nothing wrong with the newsgroup except a lack of interest. I put up a test message on Friday 8/1 which received a follow-up test and someone else posted some links in ref to Disneyland's B-Day yesterday.

The group is moderated. It appears that some ISP's are ignoring the
moderation flag, but it's there. Try posting from Google.

Yes, this is legitimate. I can neither post nor read any posts since
May of 2007 either.

Then send a note to your ISP complaining about it.

Also, I don't understand why a spurious "moderated" flag would
keep an ISP from even carrying the group. Moderation (when it
actually exists, which it doesn't in this case) only affects
people's ability to *post* to the group, not to read it. You
really need to pin your ISP to the wall about this one, because
it makes no sense that you can't even view postings in a.d.d.

True, but the only hope these folks have for getting a.d.d
is to contact their ISPs. Not contacting the ISPs will
guarantee failure.

I think the best thing to do would be to create a new control message that
cancels the moderation flag. This sounds a whole lot easier than contacting
every ISP on the planet.

Well, it's only the ISPs who aren't currently carrying the group,
or who are carrying it but treating it as moderated and thus not
allowing postings. (There being no place to send said postings
for moderation.) Dunno how many ISPs that is. Most of the complaints
I've seen about not getting a.d.d. haven't even been about ISPs, but
rather about one specific newsgroup service: Google.

And you'd still have to convince Google and the ISPs to carry the
group. As I mentioned earlier, the moderation flag is a separate
issue from why they aren't feeding the group. Unless some ISPs
aren't carrying it because they think it's a moderated group
*with no moderator.*

But sure, a control message couldn't hurt. It might break things
loose on some news servers.

Nothing new on Cox newservers. Hasn't been since 2006. I've heard many
others state their feed has been non existant since the exact same time.
Something happened in 2006 thats effected numerous ISP's.

I can read all the old posts from 2006 and prior. They are all on my
ISP's server. However, my posts never show up, nor does anyone elses
except automated messages that appear to be from a moderator.

Hmmm, what are those automated messages you're seeing? I haven't
seen anything like that on a.d.d that I recall.

If indeed your ISP thinks that the group is moderated, your
posts of course wouldn't show up, because your news server
is either sending them into the bit bucket or to a nonfunctioning
moderation address.

But it doesn't make sense that your server isn't receiving and
displaying *other* people's messages. (I.e., people whose
newsservers aren't treating the group as moderated.) You
should be able to see messages posted right up to today.
That's what doesn't make sense to me.

I'm pretty certain that's when the fake control message was issued, the one
that turned a.d.d. into a moderated group.

According to one person in alt.config, a.d.d. never had a charter or a
proper control message. Maybe we should start over and recreate the group
from scratch.

That might be worth a try. Although with the recent slaughtering
of the alt.* hierarchy on their servers by certain over-reacting
ISPs, there are some people who won't be able to access a new
alt.* group. It might be easier to convince the a.d.d-only regulars
to come over to r.a.d.p. Although I'm not sure that you really
*want* all of the people who are hanging out there now. :-)
