This has alway's been a mystery to me though. When the Birds are
exchanging one-liners during the (Tiki Tiki Tiki Room song) what do
they say after "...my profile is out of this world. Yah, but the
trouble is it's not far enough out of this world. Isn't that
right....." What comes next? I can't quite understand them from the CD
I have.

tribute to Wally Boag, the voice of Jose, and his blunt baldness. When
he performed at the Golden Horseshoe he made it a point to take off his
Toupe and scratch his skull.

I don't like German. Really I don't.
But as far as I know Herr is the German equivilent to Mister. So it would
be correct in saying "Herr Schmidt" (Schmidt being a name).

convention that's coming up, one of the organizers asked me to provide a
tape of the whole Tiki Room show as background music. I looked for a
complete script as a guide for putting together all the CD tracks,
cassette tape recordings, MP3s and WAVs into the total show, and when I
found that there weren't any good ones out there, I made one myself,
taking dictation from a scratchy complete tape recording I made at DL a
few years back, and rechecking it against the CD tracks. If anyone can
supply any corrections, I'd appreciate it (now it's just a matter of
fine-tuning it before I submit this to, say, Bertino's site).
Also, I'm looking for a photo of Pierre (the blue French parrot). I have
a large plush blue parrot that I'd like to make a name badge for, and I
need a head shot of Pierre for his photo ID. Yeah, it's silly, but hey.
Don't post it here, post it to alt.binaries.multimedia.disney, or email
me (remove the HATESPAM).

That's what I thought at first, or maybe "comicals," but then I got the
Disney Theme Park Sing-Along cassette, and in the lyric book it says
it's "kamikaze." I'm having to assume that it's right, since Disney
printed it, and it's being mispronounced as "comic-caws," which does
sound halfway between "called macaws" and "comicals." <shrug> Still
doesn't make sense, though.

Thanks for the help. I know just enough French and German to make a stab
at what Pierre and Fritz are saying, but I wasn't going to even try the
Hawaiian lines, and since the only full recording I have was made after
the show was cut, I was only guessing as to where Offenbach used to fit.
I couldn't quite remember. I'll have to listen again to figure out why
those other lines completely got by me. Probably drowned out by noise. I
thought something was missing there.

The Offenbach section (now only heard on the original recording of the Tiki
Room, the Lp backed wtih the THURL Ravenscroft recording of 'The Adventurous
Jungle Cruise') was cut out a couple of years ago when the new sub-woofers and
sound system were installed into the Tiki Room.
The 'Bacarolle' was removed due to (as I was told at the time) it being too
slow and
establishing a point where interestwas lost in the show. The other reason was
to shorten the running time of the show to where they could offer four shows an
hour to guests (Patio Pre-show included) instead of three when BACAROLLE was
still in the presentation. Interesting that now they still only do Three shows
a day and open later/close earlier in daily operations.

I struggled with a slightly different version of the same line when typing up
the script for the WDW version of the show. It *still* doesn't make sense to
me, but it's a sort of Tiki god rap that goes (as far as I can tell from my
tape recording):
The boys in the back are on the cause
And that's because they are macaws
There's no question in the middle ("Because of their claws?"). It's possible
that they're saying "The boys in the back are called macaws and that's because
they are macaws," but what the hell does that mean? And what does it mean if
they're kamikaze? Are they swooping down on the audience trying to commit
suicide?

If anyone can verify what is being said in the WDW version, I'd appreciate it.

There are some lines said by the parrots during the storm, but I can't make
them out on the record except for "What's going on?" (Fritz, I think.)
BTW, some substantial remixing and rerecording was done to sections of the
show when they revised it, particularly in the tiki's war chant section,
which I believe is almost entirely a new recording.
I had the misfortune of seeing the original uncut show in Orlando shortly
before they closed it for the Great Rehab. The audio was horrendously out
of balance, with the atmospheric "chirping" speakers turned up to
eardrum-bursting levels, drowning out the whole rest of the show. Fritz
sounded like he was being smothered with a pillow, no doubt caused by a
head clog on some poor cranky multitrack tape machine in the bowels of the
park. Half the animatronics weren't working.
Thanks to the chirpers, we had to abandon ship about midway through
Offenbach (as did everybody else who was seated within firing range of one
of those awful speakers, IE the back two or three rows). I felt like a
traitor walking out on the Enchanted Tiki Room, one of my favorite
attractions since I was an itty bitty kid, but it was either that or have
the rest of the day spoiled with a pounding headache. Twas the lowest
point of our entire stay in the World, which for the most part was
wonderful. We went back the next day, chose our seats with great care
(middle of the room, right under Fritz), and survived the whole show.
In spite of the changes, I'm delighted with how the show sounds at
Disneyland. The sound reinforcement guys really did a good job.
