I've been wondering that as well... Actually, the story you relate
above tells a lot about people who swear that just because someone is
of a certain faith or belongs to a certain organization they are above
reproach. Scum exists in all walks of life, and on every social
strata. That's why I have such fun with people that believe
everything is black-and-white. Like Ed claiming that because he's an
Eagle Scout, he doesn't lie - that's a broad generalization about
Eagle Scouts that obviously doesn't hold true, and this guy mentioned
above certainly proves that. Ed may not be given to lying, and I
personally never thought he was - I don't recall anyone saying that he
was lying about what he saw, just that he was confused about when he
saw it. It's a simple mistake - few people can remember precisely the
chronology of events on a given day some two years on - and doesn't
mean you're a liar.
However, in the black-and-white world of Ed, if you don't believe
exactly what he says, you're calling him a liar. And Eagle Scouts
never lie, just like Washington really chopped down that cherry tree.
Ed, if you're still lurking around here - I'll bet 'ol Arthur Bishop
lied his ass off about raping little boys to just about everybody, so
what does that tell you? It tells me that there are no absolutes.
To expand on this, I do recall that Ed railed on about how the
governement has lied to us in the past, therefore they are lying now.
Well, they could be - but just because they have lied in the past,
doesn't mean that they are lying now. That's why I get such a kick
out of people railing about Clinton's immorality while at the same
time holding up people like Ronald Reagan as paragons of virtue. Hey,
Reagan cheated on his wife, and even had his divorce from Jane Wyman
rigged by the studios so that the truth would be covered up. IMO,
that's about the same as getting a few hummers from an intern and then
lying about it to save your ass. I personally could give a shit about
what any of our leaders have done in the privacy of their bedrooms -
that's between them and their families - but you gotta love the
hypocrisy. We're probably all guilty of hypocrisy every now and then,
but how many of us make it a practiced art like Ed, Rivero, Goddard,
Schneider, or Kennedy?
