Sorry to those who cannot browse the web, but I found this site when looking
for something else.
Seems to me, that to effectively make the whole of care component of dla and
aa a part of personal budgets administered by local authorities is really
very dangerous indeed. For a start it removes a safety net should a local
authority decide to assess you differently from how you think, it could
even, in the future, given a change of direction, mean you do not get the
money but a service, a service for which you probably no longer qualify for,
so effectively giving your money to someone else.
This needs to be watched and lobbied against.
Real safeguards against loss of benefit have to be enshrined in the rules.
There is also the cultural change in that if Government decides to no
longer be responsible for looking after people who, through no fault of
their own, are disadvantaged, then it becomes a post code lottery as to what
you get.
In my particular view, the social benefits and services have to be run
country wide in a prescribed manner so all people get what they need to at
least survive and remain independent.

news:i3NqpFHN...@chris.mcmillan...
I wrote to In Touch after an article about RNIB/NLB announced they're
making their braille staff at Stockport redundant and this afternoon
Kathleen Griffin their researcher rang me up with the possibility of my
doing a short bit down the phone. I concentrated on the loss of braille
for those for whom audio is not an option ie deaf-blind. Will still
have to see whether it passes muster on the night. Will do the
recording on Monday.
