I've had an email request saying they read through google and have no isp
based nntp and wondered what people suggest as googles video capture has
defeated them on there.

I believe there are still some free nntp servers out there, so thought I'd
ask as they can read these groups but get frustrated at not being able to
post. I though Google had an audio version these days, but I have sympathy
with anyone attempting to use Googles crap interface. I would certainly n to
use it!

. http://www.teranews.com/ - $3.95 setup, then free forever. "free
uncensored, unlogged, NNTP news server access to all newsgroups,
including all of the binary newsgroups." ..

. http://www.eternal-september.org/ - free (you still have to register),
but (I think) text 'groups only (and not necessarily all of them, but
include this one). ..

. There are others - one called something like aioi seems popular.

That last one is flakey and has seemingly dropped a lot of the sexual groups
and so it seems has problems with posting, or a limit on postings in a given
time frame.
It also falls over a lot.

I signed up for albasani.net out of Austria news.albasani.net. They
only have a couple of german sounding binarys, but have 22/000 txt
groups.I am still using google groups as once you have a google
account they don't ask for you to pass more captchas once you are
signed on, and don't know if my bad internet connect or thunderbird is
causing me news-server access issues. Anyway Albasani is completely
free and requirees no captcha to sign up. They even have real people
doing what bots seem to do in most cases, and reasonable policys.

I am still looking for ideas for stand alone usenet clients, and
reasons for choosing one of them over the rest.(easy screenreader
access required!)

I signed up for albasani.net (news.albasani, they have 22.000 groups
if I remember, but only a couple of german sounding binarys.net I
dont think there is www in the address), but as I have some problems
with my net connect and also with thunderbird am still using google
groups.
Google has some extra gunk that clogs up the ui experience, but once
you have a google account you don't need to pass through more
captchas if you are signed on to post. Albasani is completely free,
and has no captchas in the sign up. They also have real people
involved in there service, where some othere seem to be all bot run
afairs. There is a good post from july I think on the blind-users
group about it from Brent in Atlanta/don't remember the exact subject
name. (may have been the end of June)

. Sorry, I thought it was news servers you were after (or maybe there is
more than one person looking, and you're looking for different things).
.

. The only one I have experience with with speech is the old Outlook
Express; my friend seems to be managing OK with it. There's one
situation where the only way to get out of a situation is to close and
reopen it, but we know how to avoid that. (It's when you tab to the
preview pane from the first posting in a 'group, without selecting it,
so that the preview pane says no article is selected, or something like
that.) .
. I can't at the moment see why Free Agent shouldn't work reasonably
well, but I haven't tried it.
