Cloud computing has already swelled into an
estimated $36 billion market this year,
representing roughly 13 percent of global
software sales. The big question now is whether
it can turn into a technology tsunami that
sweeps Microsoft and other software industry
staples into obsolescence.

One can only hope. Sadly, though, this just returns
things to the bad old days of big, centralized,
over-powerful providers, so it isn't self evident
that sweeping Microsoft aside will do much [beyond
temporarily placating the ravening masses yearning
to be free however much Redmond blood needs spilling
in the process]. Ultimately, it may just amount to
trading one set of shackles for another.

Seems like a good idea to me. The average computer just sits there
99.97% of the time. Huge waste.
