I started playing around with Photoshop CS4 today. The weirdest new
feature I've found to date is "Content Aware Scaling" Place a photo on
a single layer and from Edit choose Content Aware Scaling. Photoshop
will scale the background of the image and leave the main subject at
unscaled. In other words you end up with a different proportional size
between the background and the subject of the photo, without separating
each to their own layer and scaling the independently.

I used a photo of a speaker at a lectern and scaled the background, but
the speaker and the lectern remained their original size. I haven't
tried it with a wide variety of images, but I was amazed at how well the
program identified the subject of the photo and left that unscaled.

Its a small feature but an interesting one. Here's a couple of links
that explain it better than I did, and that provide some visual examples

photographers have no peers)

I just got my new version Monday and saw that but didn't know what it
was. Thanks for the heads up. Right now I'm ass deep in catalog season
so it'll be a couple of months before I can explore.

The more I work with it on these catalogs I really like the interface.
The pallets, excuse me I mean panes are well done and out of the way
if you want them to be. The tabs are nice too, but I've seen some
sluggishness moving between windows and closing/saving from there. Hit
the wrong key command and came up with Vanishing Point. Not knowing
what it was I played with it awhile and got zero results for whatever
I was trying to do.

All in all I'm happy with the upgrade. The quick selection tool is a
nice addition along with various eye candy tweaks they've added. I
upgraded from CS2 for $199. Recommend to all who care.
