just wondering if anyone can tell me what style of *watercolor* would
most closely approximate this:

http://www.turnerdesign.net/watercolor

*

I realize it looks like a batik.... also, having read a bit online and
searched a little more, it seems like wet-on-dry with drying inbetween
is the best bet, but I really couldn't find any specifics about
overlaying small areas of color for the hard-edged but "blotchy" look
seen here.

Any help appreciated!

Definitely not traditional batik, which involves a wax resist and layering
of dyes from light to dark. There are, however, watercolour resists -- you
can buy them in art stores. You can also use a white crayon, which is
cheap and easy. But using a resist leaves definite lines between the
shapes.

Your example would probably be best duplicated by the wet-on-dry method.
Are you using solid paints or the tube watercolours?

Hiya Carol -

Actually, I don't have any medium yet. In fact, I guess I'm not stuck with
watercolor, but it seems like a ringer for this style. Seems like the
transparency would be well suited for it.

I guess this sample shows that wet-on-wet would need to be used, too, within
forms... ah, I'm new at this!

You could do something similar using Gauche. It is a bit more expensive than
water-colour, but line and form control work better. Only bad thing is that you
have to work quickly with it, unlike oils.

Looks almost like an attempt at pointillism but with the paper too wet.

Well, yes. It was the fastest way to show the style I'd like to be able to
do "for real"...

Great Oregon pics, too.... "Pig Turd Alley"...heh.

Thanks Gordon -

I just did a little research and, yes, I think I will possibly need to combine the
two!

LOL!!!

I can only imagine what you *think* it might mean...

Anyway, as tempted as I am to ask, "what do you think it means?", well,

The one with the dog is closest to what I'm after.

It looks like a hybrid form of pointilism.
