My feelings are expressed by the small image near the bottom of my home

Simple, stark and elegant I think. With all my heart, I wish I didn't
have to put it there.

I like the idea Stan and the sentiment but I must admit I cannot wrap my
head around what has happened. After leaving the tv on Monday night I
awoke yesterday to the incredulous image of the 2 smoking towers with
the caption '2 airliners crash into the world trade towers'. Even in my
sleepy state I concluded that this was impossible to be an accident and
it must be a deliberate act of destruction. With my jaw open in
amazement I then saw the building collapse right before my eyes. In a
state of shock I called my family to confirm what I had been seeing
hoping it would not be real. This event has affected me in a most
dramatic way. I realized that I had witnessed possibly thousands of
lives die before me. Not knowing what to do I turned off the tv and went
to the gym as if nothing had happened. I walked into the gym, got on the
treadmill and after 5 minutes I turned it off and went home. Everything
seemed very pointless to me in the world and I went to sleep. The phone
rang and it was the agency wondering where I was and I asked if those
heartless bastards were working today and they said yes so I went in. I
was in an extremely foul mood and I was jumping down everyone's throat
and I lambasted one of the junior designers for screwing up my lunch
order. I had soooo looked forward to that lunch as some kind of escape
from that day. After a while I apologized to everyone and went home.
I had plans to go surfing this a.m. but when my surfing buddy called me
last night to hook up I said I wasn't going because I didn't really feel
like enjoying anything for a while.
I really can't deal with what has happened and the thought of me trying
to do a poster seems pointless.

I do think that a poster or SOMETHING will help to purge your mind and soul
and help you work through the grief, because that is exactly what you are
going through. Grief takes time to work through. Work is good therapy.

This is true. Maybe that's why we're all so weird. <g>
Art is a great escape for me both in good and bad times. I can hide there
and make my own world.

It's odd, but that seems to be a common trait among artists that I never
have been able to share. Perhaps it's the cartoonist in me, but art is
extremely difficult for me when I'm as upset as I have been the past 24
hours.
Maybe that's beginning to change.

Hmmm... I actually sat down to write a post much like this when I read
yours.
So I like the idea and will try to join in making a poster with a display of
my emotions. One image is worth a thousand words.

My late mother was born in september 11, she was a school teacher, and the
school teacher's celebration day in Argentina is september 11. I don't think
I'm gonna forget this day as long as I shall live, Carol. But seeing this
image made me feel better, because when we were all blocked in awe for the
horror of the pointless orchestrated distruction, somebody was able to give
birth of something beatiful...

I understand your sentiment. What does the cross have to do with peace,
though? Or the attacks?
Not trying to stir up trouble, it's just that a cross isn't appropriate. I
doubt everyone killed worshipped it.

Completely agreed. Thank you, Carol.
The fact is that this boils down in a very ugly way to religion, and the
cross seemed, I'm sure innocently enough, to be making an 'Us Vs. Them'
statement to me.
I'm far from your average "PC" crusader. I know Christianity is the
predominant religion in the US and most people will take comfort at the
graphic and it's intended meaning. I just felt compelled to reply after Stan
mentioned it.

I know how you feel. I've been unable to really function in these past days.
This coming from a Canadian.
A friend of mine survived even though her office cieling caved in ontop of
her with flames and debris. She clawed her way to freedom, literally, and
showed up at her apartment door covered in soot where her frantic husband
almost collapsed in relief.
Last night, before I knew what I was doing, I walked into my bathroom and
shaved my hair off. I can't say why, even now. I just did it. It's clear
grief is working through me in unexpected ways.
I've been deeply moved before when World events such as this happen but this
time it's hit me in a way I cannot express. I suppose part of me knows that
something significant has died along with all of the victims and our lives
will never be the same. Our innocence has been slain.
Paolo.
Andrew, symbols have various meanings to them, not just the one that is
obvious. Very often symbols are misunderstood because of the frame of
reference of the viewer. Although the cross is an icon closely
associated with Christianity, it can also symbolize the concept of
religion, and serenity or peace.
My graphic was intended to communicate my feeling of sorrow. If you can
mentally replace the cross with a Star of David if that is your
religion, please do. Whatever your faith may be, the cross is a symbol
of it and the refuge it provides when we feel so helpless.
That refuge gives us the peace that we seek.

Thank you Carol.
Speaking of teachers, I had heard numerous day care centers had kids with no
one to pick them up on Tuesday night. If anyone will be impacted in the
greatest way, it is the children who lost family members because of this
violence. Keep these kids in prayer.

I did that when my son was born, and didnt know if there was going to be
a custody struggle or not (thank God there wasn't). I can totally relate
to doing that Paolo - I think what is occuring is that you are taking
control over something that you _have_ control over (your hair). Sounds
simplistic but I feel that's whats happening.

Great, Carol... Seems Yamasaki's creation will survive into the
future, albeit not in the way he would have expected.
Actually, speaking from a foreigner's point of view, the silhouettes
of the two towers are now the emblem of America for the world - not
Lady Liberty, not the stars & stripes.
It's not a single death, it's a death of twins.

Surem but why did you fuck up Carol's Painting? Did you get permission
from her?
It's one thing to be inspired, yet another to deface someone's work
> Surem but why did you fuck up Carol's Painting? Did you get permission

I have the utmost respect for other's rights and creations. Yes, I emailed
Carol and showed her my design and asked if I was overstepping her
boundaries in any way, to please tell me, and I will immediately delete the
design from my files. I would never EVER do something without the owners
knowledge.
I used Carol's painting because it is beautiful. We were not beaten by this
horrible attack. Our WILL is strong and unbreakable. "We are ready now" is a
call for unity. I wanted to combine the elements of Beauty, Strength, and
Unity to convey a single message. I'm sorry you only saw it as fucking up
Carol's painting. I'm just a student, I still have a lot to learn and if
that is your professional critique, I understand and respect that too.
> It's one thing to be inspired, yet another to deface someone's work
I wholeheartedly agree. To deface something without the owners permission
would be like...terrorism.

Thank you I appreciate that and I have no intentions of doing anything with
it cause I think that would devalue the worth of the original and that would
not be cool. How's that for a single sentence!
