Hi guys,

I've been struggling over a college assignment for a while, and it only just
occured to me you guys will know a lot about the subject, which is:

*ahem*: "Propagandist Art and Its Uses Throughout The 20th Century"
:)

It needs to focus on artists, and their use of artistic/psychological (sp?)
devices to convey their message.

Any links/anecdotes/experience?

Thanks as always,
Matt :)

Hi Matt,

I have always marvelled at the level of sophistication of the German
propaganda machine during WW2 and what I always found remarkable was that it
had the ability to convince a nation that insanity made sense.

Take a look at this link for more info :

Matt, don't know if this will be ofl help, but I recall doing quite a bit of
online research for a pretty long post here some 2 years ago. It referred to
the interaction betwen art and ideology in Russia after the Bolshevik
revolution in 1917. The post contained a good number of links, too. Do a
search for "artists-industrialists" on ADG.

Using art for ideological propaganda was undoubtedly most massive in the
ex-communist block - by far more intensive than Nazi Germany, plus, a common
practice for almost 70 years in Russia and 40-45 years in the Central and
Eastern European countries. If you're interested in something specific, you
can e-mail me directly. I'm not a guru in art history, but have spent 3/4 of
my life amidst communist propaganda, so I sure know this and that ;)

I found this today while looking for inspiration on this logo I'm working
on. I'm studying hands. But check out the first poster on the top left. That
arm is very weird.

What's funny is that I don't know anything about the whole underground
movement and all the underlying angst. I just think it's cool looking
work.

It's definitly cool looking work..and I don't think it really needs to be
understood..
I say that he is a master at propaganda for the sole reason that you can find
his work in almost any major city..If you really pay attention...Ever drive
through the Holland Tunnel in NYC?? It's there..The Village..Soho..
On lightpoles in Baltimore...On skateboards, billboards...T-shirts..The guy has
a huge following of people who do his bidding..Beautiful..
My friend has a signed SHEPARD FAIRY print..I am envious..
