I'm looking for good design, illustration, animation, etc.. schools in
San Diego area or CA. It does not need to be diploma-based.

Your help is appreciated,

I graduated from San Diego State University in 1998, and I still highly
recommend their program. To get something simpler, and cheaper, try out
the community college programs in Art and Graphic Design. You can get an
Associate of Science, or just a Certificate in much less than two years,
or just do it all part time. Try looking at Palomar College, City
College, and Cuyamaca College for the best resources and programs.

Ciao!

Have you looked at UC? My brother in law did get is fine arts degree
there. I'm not sure, to be honest how their commercial art is.

If you're willing to pay mucho moolah and move, you can look at Art
Center in Pasedena. Cal State Long Beach used to have a good graphics
arts program and there's also Otis Parsons in LA (though I think their
strength is fashion and interior design, IIRC). There's a small
acredited art school in Laguna Beach called Art Institute of Southern
California where I went. I liked it because it was a great environment
with very small class rooms. Their focus has become much stronger in
the commercial art direction (graphic arts, illustration).
