Indeed. I just made another.
Everyone's invited over for espresso at my pad. Don't mind the mess,

Perhaps THAT'S why it's 1am and I'm flying around the apartment. Cat
stoned on catnip and me buzzed on caffeine.
Alas, tis lonely at Café Speed... no ADG'ers comin round for a
caffeinated rush...
crazy good! :)
speed, can you show some of your paintings?? what's your pleasure; still life,
portraits, abstracts? love to see them, if you please.
I just finished another one. I can post a pic if you like.

sorry to keep you waiting, Tony! :)

I picked short twigs so as not to overpower the pots and the portrait looks a
bit better in real life... and from really far away. ;)
[it is very hard to get a good depiction of these with my camera, as I'm sure
you know.]
Tony, I tried to take some process shots like you suggested, but I kept
forgetting to take them at the right stages. jeez. maybe next time I'll try it.
:\
speed, come on, let's see what ya got!
and you, Mister AMPA ['AMPA'...doncha love it!] Jr, where's your new stuff???
hmmm???
thanks very much for your help, Tony. :)

forgive me for interupting the conversation to take a stickybeak, but I had
to say that IMO, Fiery Flowers is superb!
I can see some very Van Gogh flavours in there... a-la his "absinth era" ~
is there something you're not telling us Gem? *g*
ALSO: "Pots & Twigs" came up as a broken link for me. Has it been moved or
re-linked?
Eeek! I just hit refresh and "wahlah!" ~ Thank goodness that one showed up ~
as it happens it is my favourite of the four :)
Fantastic work Gem and thanks for sharing ;)
Just my 2KB.
Until next time...

The portrait is sweet... I would have enjoyed seeing some cooler and warmer
tones...and a titch more softness where the hair meets the face on your left
cheek.
Try this in your next palette...in addition to the colors you're already
using. I know it sounds gross but for a range of warm and cool very dark
tones it's fabulous!!!
Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium yellow and Sap green.
While mixing your palette, mix Alizarin Crimson with Sap Green in the first
range of base color, using a bit more Alizarin Crimson. This will give you a
very dark warm brown. Create a progression of value in six or seven
increments, Alizarin Crimson and Sap Green as the darkest then add small
increments of Cadmium yellow, create a slightly lighter value for each
increment by adding more Cadmium Yellow ,This will give you a rich warm
golden brown, the lightest being similar to the value of yellow ochre.
To get a cooler rich brown add a bit more Sap green to the combination of
Alizarin Crimson... It will almost appear black until you begin to add
increments of cadmium yellow. This will produce a rich cool brown. Again
make incremental progressions of values of this color by adding cadmium
yellow.
What I like about the combination of those particular colors are their
transparent qualities, in addition to the rich sumptuous color. They work
beautiful with glazes as well.
I think of this grouping Gem... I am only bothered by the books in the last
painting, the perspective seems to be a bit off on the books in relation to
the lamp. I'm getting a birds eye view of the books and a straight on view
of the lamp.
The color harmony in all the paintings work very well. The texture and tone
of the pots are beautiful! Did you set the still life up in North Light,
working from photo's or are you using artificial light on the objects? The
pots appear to have to separate light sources which adds beautifully to the
illusion of space.
Keep up the GREAT WORK!!! Please post more!!!!!
Thanks for sharing,
with warm regards,

hehee Thanks, Tony, I hoped you'd like that. ;)
>I would have enjoyed seeing some cooler and warmer

agreed. The photo I worked from was a web jpg of young Elizabeth Taylor, you
know how she has that translucent skintone, but she somehow evolved into ... my
Mom!
but yes, I should have tried a warmer tone.
Thank you very much, I'll try your palette suggestions [i'm printing that out]
for the next one or maybe do some touching up on this one.
I hear that achieving a true skintone color is very difficult, yes? I don't
care for doing portraits so much. :)
>I think of this grouping Gem... I am only bothered by the books in the last

Correct. This bugs me, too. This is the one that I spent only about 2-3 hours
on -- it was due that evening! This was from an actual set up still life, no
photo. That's probably what threw me off. :\
>The color harmony in all the paintings work very well. The texture and tone
>of the pots are beautiful!
Thanks, I had so much fun doing those pots. This was from a photo.[ I'll scan
it and send you the pic when I get a moment ok.] I mimicked the light sources
in the photo to a degree but my background is different.
>Keep up the GREAT WORK!!! Please post more!!!!!
**blush**
Thanks, Tony, for your encouragement, your suggestions, and inspiration! :))
Be more than interested to see yours as well.

eh?? what's that?? I couldn't quite *hear* you....now, where's my glass...
lol, yes, my *angry* little flowers. I actually had Bob Ross in mind...
>Thank goodness that one showed up ~

thanks! That one was the most fun to do. My Mom likes that one, too, and wants
me to send it her. :)

Yikes! Pressure! Erm... I haven't oil painted in about two years.. I
just opened the paint tube to get my creativity jump started.
Would you settle for last night's pen and ink Batman sketches? Or
would you rather see my website?
Very nice paintings by you, btw. I've got a few ideas for paintings
bubbling around the back of my skull, but for the moment, another
Batman sketch. (I learned to read on comics - thus the infatuation,
still.)
speed
thank you, Helen! I liked that palette alot, too.
>Congratulations on many more triumphs, you just keep churning them out. So

have you had some time to paint any lately? Sounds like you are quite busy.
heh, exhibition huh. soon... I'll keep ya posted. ;)
Helen, remember that red metal sign in those cafe shots you took a few years
back? Did you ever figure out what it was an advert for? Just curious. :)

oooo, that works doesn't it! the smell of the paint and all, 'specially if you
actually squeeze it out on a palette. :)

YES, love to! let's have a look-see, if you please.

thank you kindly. :)

one of my friends at school does oils of his animation/cartoon characters;
quite stunning too, I might say. hehe, he has eschewed acrylics for oils much
to our oil painting instructor's satisfaction. *grin*
thanks for looking, speed!

Funny you should ask, I was just thinking the other day how I haven't piked
up a paint bruch since the 14 days project. And yes, I have been very busy
which is excellent!

Oh I know! Only speculations unfortunately. I'm happy with the mix of Coca
Cola and Winfield for now. (I think it was Winfield... I don't smoke!)
that was it! I knew I'd asked you about that before but forgot the name of the
cigarettes.
thanks, Helen and good luck with your prolects!! Cheers!
