I've been meaning to do this for some time. Can I get some feedback on the
layout for my website? I know I'll probably get some harsh criticism, but I
can take it. I do have reasons for everything on the website, but I wanted
to find out what you fine people thought.

The logo is transitional; I'm in the process of designing a better one.

Thank you,

Well it's an interesting site.

The "More Info" link next to the copyright statement leads to a 404, and the
splash page is useless...let your viewers go right to the content.

It looks like a porn or warez site.

Why do you say that?

One big table .. each with a different colored pastel background. No color
scheme, just looks like its trying to grab attention from the eye.

I can understand where Ron is coming from, and IMO, believe it to be the
black background that gives your site this look.
Have you considered a dark colour as a bg instead of a straight black? Some
of the other colours may need to be reconsidered depending on the colour you
choose of course, but it may help you escape from the porn/warez site look.

Until next time...

Yes, the table is large, it is being replaced by CSS; I'm working on that.
For the moment I have visitors that use older browsers so compatibility is a
high priority. As for the color schemes, there are seven different color
schemes for the seven sections of the website (see Amazon.com for a similar
use). The general color scheme is that of dark grays, reds, oranges, and
yellows... I'm trying to go for a forged metal look while keeping image
sizes down.

I understand where you might want to try and pull a concept from Amazon...
but they use a white background. They can get away with alot more than you
can with that color alone.

But could you imagine going to Amazon and being greeted by a large table
with 5 bright colored cells on a black background greeting you?

I think the CSS might help.... but you really need to rethink those colors.

Yeah, those particular colors don't work well together, and black

In the beginning, there was nothing. Then it exploded.

What I want is for the user to associate a specific color with a specific
section of the website, easing navigation and site organization. Trying to
find seven web-safe colors that will indicate seven separate sections of the
website has been an enormously time-consuming process so far. I've tried
hundreds of different colors. I spent two hours on it last night, playing
with different color combinations. I've tried to find seven colors that are
tints or shades of the same general hue, and there just aren't any in
non-dithering colors. I'm not terribly pleased with the colors as it is, but
I just haven't been able to find what I want in web-safe colors. I'm open to
suggestions.

The black background is there because I'm trying to simulate a forge. A
forge is usually not that bright. The focus is upon the flaming sword,
obviously... I don't want to load up the page with a huge background image
to get something more interesting than black, and I can't find a web-safe
color other than black that works well with the grays that I've framed the
page in. And I don't think that a black background necessarily indicates a
'porn' or 'warez' site look. I've seen plenty of other websites with black
backgrounds in all kinds of genres.

I've removed the splash page, I've been considering doing that for a long
time.

Fixed, I've been considering that for a long time, anyway. And the 404 on
the copyright page is fixed as well.
