Since the breakout IRC, the Internet Relay Chat, has suddenly become an
widely used medium for information and interactive discussion about this
conflict. 24 hours a day people are reporting from various sources,
TV, Radio and some israelian students report directly from their sealed
rooms! Users from the entire Internet have joined the IRC to get quick
information about what is going on. If you are interested to join this
Conference Network you should first of all ask your local gurus and
wizards if the software you need is already available, the command to
enter the irc usually is 'irc'. The informations are being reported on
a channel called +report, discussion is primarily in +war, however
you can get this kind of information by communicating with the information
service robots: PeaceServ and InfoServ. And of course most users on the
net will be willing to help and introduce you!

The reports from IRC are being logged and collected!
They are available at 131.159.0.10 ftp site in /irc.

The recent software is available by ftp:
ircII USA: 128.2.104.65 (rvw2.hhs.ri.cmu.edu)
Germany: 134.106.1.9 (ftp.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de)
irc Finland: 128.214.5.6 (tolsun.oulu.fi)
Germany: 131.159.0.10 (gshalle3.informatik.tu-muenchen.de)
USA: 128.197.2.1 (cs.bu.edu)

[articles on IRC war network war reports]

Could somebody take a moment to explain how to access these? I ftp'd to the
site, but the files were in "tar.Z" format, which I (and a lot of other
non-techie netpeople) don't know how to deal with.

use the following two commands to extract the files:

uncompress filename.tar
tar xvf filename.tar

where filename is dependent on which files you are extracting.

I just heard on NBC news this morning that there is a *RUMOR* floating
around that Iraq has stationed some of its airforce in Iran. Is this
true? I hope not but I wouldn't put it past the Iranians....

This rumour also appeared in late editions of sunday's New York Times.
It said "surrounding countries", which rules out the USSR but could
conceivably include Jordan and Iran. I wouldn't rule out a Syrian
double-cross of some kind, either.
