Indian government setting new Telecom policy 
  The Indian government is set to roll out new policies in the telecommunications sector at the start of the second phase of the overhaul in the industry. Sachin Pilot, the Minister of IT and Telecommunications, said on Monday. The telecom industry in India is generating its revenues more and more from data services and infotainment applications, with SMS and Voice becoming less of a factor. Telecom Italia Pares Gains As Report Denied: Milan Mover 
  Telecom Italia SpA (TIT) pared gains in Milan trading after state lender Cassa Depositi & Prestiti SpA denied a report in Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper on the creation of a fixed-line network venture with Italy’s biggest phone operator. Telecom Italia was trading up 3.3 percent at 70 cents as of 11:02 a.m. after a jump of as much as 6.4 percent earlier in the day. The stock has declined 16 percent this year, valuing Telecom Italia at 12.8 billion euros ($16.1 billion).... more »

Telco sector should be under state control: CWU 
  The Communications Workers Union (CWU) has defended Cabinet’s decision to block a deal between telecommunications group, Telkom, and Korea-based KT Corp, stating that the telecommunications sector should be under state ownership. “The Communications Workers Union (CWU) would like to congratulate Cabinet for its decision not to mortgage Telkom further to the Koreans. Telecommunications is a strategic sector that should be firmly under state ownership and control, and the country still lags far behind in terms of telecommunications development indicators,” the union said in a statement on Monday (18 June).... more »

Telecom firms oppose move to impose one-time tax on telecom towers using subsidised diesel

What good is the "do not call" list? 
  Before the list, I was getting 3-5 telemarketing calls a day, most during dinner. When the list was new, I was down to virtually no calls. Now that it is several years old, I am back up to 10+ calls a week, including many to my cell phone. I take the time to report them all, but that doesn't seem to do... more »
