Thoughts on which one to get? I'm moving to a new house and this would be
my opportunity to be a "new subscriber"...

I know it's a personal decision, but I'm leaning toward the 7200, since I
can "archive" the hard drives...

Thanks!
Jim

As anyone can testify that read my rants last Fall & Winter, I was dead set
against the 501 as a replacement for my 7200, even with all the DP
problems. I was even all set to switch to Direct TiVos, but Dish gave me
a free 501 and even allowed me to keep my 7200. Now months later, I've got
to admit that I'm much happier with my 501. My 7200 is actually working
better now, but like once I got used to the crappy 501 EPG, I've got to
say I much prefer it over the 7200. I've also never had any of the
problems with my 501 that some on the list say they've been having.

What about the ability to do keyword searches, which the DP does but the
501 doesn't?

Ben,

The 501 has had Keyword Search since the release of Firmware Version 153,
about 2 months now.

Some more DP advantages:
- Keyboard (optional on 7200)
- Master channel list, can remove subscribed but undesired channels from EPG
- Games
- New event timer can override an existing one w/o having to delete either
- Sound on almost all menus, PIP on many
- Event timers in chronological order with program title
- EPG in list form for single channel by using search
- On-screen help, remote control device code look-up
- Program info displayed on EPG w/o having to press Info
- EPG w/PIP has 6 lines vs 4 on 501 (501 can show 6 w/o PIP & sound)
- Pause to length of free HD capacity (501 up to 1 hour, considering more)

Search has been added to the 501.
See http://echostar.swiki.net/291#Search
I also posted some of the advantages each has in the way it implements
search, see
http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4088 and the corrections
after my post.
