I just thought of another 70's Christmas memory. I remember on christmas
morning we couldn't go downstairs until my father loaded his trusty Super 8
Movie Camera, remember these?...Some people used the by then obsolute Regular
8)
I was always so dazed by the floodlight on that thing I could hardly see my
presents!
And there was no one hour film developing back then. IIRC, you had to wait at
least two weeks. (One example of how things in life were slower then---that
could be an idea for a thread, examples of how life was slower in the 70's,
compared to today)
Haven't we come a long way in capturing our memories, comparing this to using a
camcorder? Actually, one could buy a video recorder in the 70's, but it would
set you back $1,000 to $2,000-at least in the early and mid 70's. Mostly
schools and buisnesses had them then, or if you were filthy rich!

Oh, of course!! How many of us remember being blinded first thing
Christmas morning? We still tease my dad about that. If I could edit
our old Christmas films (that is, if they wouldn't disintegrate!) I
would snip out each years' entrances into the living room while my
dad's lights were shining. In the final edit, you'd see me in my footy
jam-jams rubbing my eyes and frowning at the camera, then you'd see me
in my nighty, a little taller, rubbing my eyes and frowning at the
camera. Then a little taller, rubbing my eyes and frowning at the
camera, then a little taller . . .

For half the morning, there were green and purple circles before my
eyes!

AAAhhhhhhhh.....and to think we almost started sheets on fire with that
floodlight!!!!! Truly! Thankfully, we have transferred all our home movies
to video so I can watch them over and over....
