hey guys!!! here's a dumb little fill in the blank thingy i was
thinking about this morning while i was in the shower (where i do my
scariest thinking...LOL) i was thinking "what if the 70s newsgroup
gang got together for the first time by having a pot luck dinner?"
think about it:

what would you wear?
what else would you do to prepare for the evening?
what food would you contribute?
any dinner/party of mine would have a karaoke machine, what song would
you sing when your turn came up?
what music would you want to play?
what special items would you want to share with the gang?
what items would you be too embarrassed to share?
who of the gang would you be dying to talk to first?
who do you think you will engage in conversation with until 3 am?
what "conversation starter" would you use?

and MY ANSWERS are:

what would you wear? my silver bellbottoms, or my black catsuit with
the floor length leopard print vest

what else would you do to prepare for the evening? hmmm, 70s sparkly
eyeshadow, and my hair is cut so that it can look very trendy 90s...BUT
if you curl it the other way, it can be a farrah fawcett hairdo, so i
would do that as well...tee hee!!!

what food would you contribute? FONDUE of course!!! chocolate
fondues, cheese fondues, broth fondues, you name it!
any dinner/party of mine would have a karaoke machine, what song would
you sing when your turn came up? "the legend of billy jack (one tin
soldier)" by coven, tee hee, my karaoke favourite!

what music would you want to play? DUH, 70s music!!! well i will be
happy just as long as i can hear "kung fu fighting"

what special items would you want to share with the gang? my shaun
cassidy/parker stevenson hardy boys colour by numbers poster, my 1978
tiger beat collection (those tiger beats are older than most of the
teen idols THEMSELVES today...LOL), as well i have a ton of really cool
70s accessories, like this neat hair barrette that has feathers hanging
from it on a leather strip, funky!!! or this wide brass bracelet that
you wear on your upper arm and it's shaped like an eagle! or my shell
necklaces, the list goes on and on!! :-)

what items would you be too embarrassed to share? nothing! i have
nothing to hide! :-)

who of the gang would you be dying to talk to first? i would love to
talk to any of y'all equally, so the first person whose name i would
recognize!

who do you think you will engage in conversation with until 3 am?
definitely the music fans!!!

what "conversation starter" would you use? "hey baby, what's your
sign? bowm chicka bowm BOWM", ok maybe not!!!

so how about you guys??

I have a goofy outfit that's mostly brown and other earth tones, it would fit
right in. Especially the brown jeans.

Get together my videotapes of 70s TV shows...I have a few, like Mary Tyler
Moore and Happy Days, that still have their network commercials and promos
intact

>what food would you contribute?

Remember, I'm already down for the chips! (because they still sell Munchos in
my area) (I think I can also find some Tab for anyone who's interested)

>any dinner/party of mine would have a karaoke machine, what song would
>you sing when your turn came up?

If my girlfriend's with me..."You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine"

>what music would you want to play?

Anything 70s...we could listen to Donna Summer one minute and Grand Funk
Railroad the next for all I care

>what special items would you want to share with the gang?

My Jimmy Carter for President poster, if I can find it ("A Leader, for a
Change")

>what items would you be too embarrassed to share?

Actually there are only a few things I have that embarrass me (like the picture
of me giving my dog a bath when I was 15; I'm wearing a Grease t-shirt with
Travolta's picture on it); but I wouldn't be embarrassed to show any of those
to you guys

>who of the gang would you be dying to talk to first?

Dawna and Larry, who I predict will be the life of the party...

>who do you think you will engage in conversation with until 3 am?

Can't think of his name, but he's the Match Game fan

>what "conversation starter" would you use?

"Oh, I see your mood ring...what are you so happy about?"

You know what... we talk about this on a regular basis which leads me to
believe that this big 70s newsgroup potluck dinner/camper road trip will
actually happen one day.... onto the questions...

> what food would you contribute? hmmm... depending on the time of year, I
would either contribute a tabouli salad and veggie burgers or a selection of
Christmas baking, which I am now about to be buried in...

> any dinner/party of mine would have a karaoke machine, what song would

out as a kid... Love Will Keep us Together...

from my still -functional easy bake o
> what items would you be too embarrassed to share? never embarassed with
you guys

> who of the gang would you be dying to talk to first?very hard Q...I would
have to just sit there and listen to EVERYONE first, sort of basking in the
glow of this amazing auras...

> who do you think you will engage in conversation with until 3 am? 3 am is
early... I would have to say ... simply all the regs.

> what "conversation starter" would you use? Do a little dance, make a
little love... lets get DOWN tonight!!!

what would you wear? that's what I'd spend the month before the actual
event planning... I am the one that totally plans to the last detail what to
show up in for things like this... work too lol
>
> what else would you do to prepare for the evening? well seeing as I would
be loaded with cash and all... I'd treat us all to a week at some Tahiti
spa, then get that Kevin Aucoin guy to do my make up and my stylist Grace to
straighten my hair..

This is NOT a "dumb" little fill in the blank thingy! This is the
greatest idea, Aleen!

> what would you wear?
Oh dear, we threw out all our 70s stuff when we moved to AZ 10 years
ago! I still have a poncho, and Larry has a brown corduroy suit, but I
confiscated the vest, and he HATES to wear suits! I guess we'd have to
tie-die something.

> what else would you do to prepare for the evening?

I would 'fro Larry's hair (he looked great like that way back when) and
I would do the FF feather thing. And wear my sparkly pink eyeshadow.
I still have a lot of 70s jewelry hanging around.

> what food would you contribute?

Larry wants to bring and grille the hotdogs, and I'll sit by with the
portable phone, ready to punch 911! :-)

> any dinner/party of mine would have a karaoke machine, what song would
> you sing when your turn came up?

No contest!! There's Got to be a Mornin' After - Maureen McGovern.
Larry's choice: Smoke on the Water . . . while he's burning --oh-- I
mean GRILLING the hotdogs.

> what music would you want to play?

We would tolerate the disco, but mostly we'd want Classic 70s Rock:
Boston, Foreigner, Journey, Kansas, and friends.

> what special items would you want to share with the gang?

(I wanna see that Hardy Boys poster!!!!) I guess I'd bring my
Partridge Family albums and my 2 Shaun C's. High school pictures. I
might have a cassette taping of an All in the Family and maybe a Hardy
Boys somewhere. And Larry would bring some tapes of his old DJ days in
the 70s. (His voice was kick-butt when I heard him on the radio
through jr. and sr. high school - he was the "star" of our little
town!!!!) Hey, he could be our DJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

> what items would you be too embarrassed to share?

Can't think of a thing.

> who of the gang would you be dying to talk to first?

We'd all be talking at once and wouldn't be able to understand each
other for about the first hour anyway, so it wouldn't matter. I think
actually I might be dumbstruck-mute for a while, not really believing I
was in the presence of the most wonderful people in the world.

> who do you think you will engage in conversation with until 3 am?

It's hard to say! We started to answer this one a person at a time,
and it ended up that we would talk with each person what we all talk
about in this NG!! We would especially talk with the regulars . . .
and just EVERYONE we've gotten to know in these posts! :-)

Girl talk of course with ALL the girls! Rachel's Easy Bake working
away while we all play with each others hair and makeup!

Both Larry and I would talk TV and music with Dixon and Sandy . . . and
Jason and Erin and Trish and Tim and Paul and Ed and Dave and Nadine
and Joy . . . we could go on and on!! Oh, we'd hate to miss listing
somebody here!

Let's put it this way: one potluck dinner would not be enough time!
We'd need a weekend . . . at least!

> what "conversation starter" would you use?

Larry: what song do you want to request?
Dawna: I'm Oil Impressionist. ;-)

Ok, I usually hate parties of any kind, so my answers are going to reflect
the type of guest you can expect me to be. Make an appearance, stay a
maximum of one hour and graciously exit. Go home, grab a good book and
listen to some Muddy Waters. OTOH, maybe you better not invite me.

Back in the old days, I just got drunk and managed to be social.
Unfortunately, I usually ended up making an ass of myself by saying
something totally inappropriate or throwing up on the bathroom floor. I
definitely don't want to celebrate my foolish youth that way :-).

What I wear every day...khakis and polo shirts. Ok, I'll put on my old
Ramones t-shirt for old times sake.

Nothing. I never prepare for anything.

I can't cook. I'll bring napkins and plastic ware.

Not my bag. Maybe after a few beers, I'd try Pretty Vacant by the Sex
Pistols.

Classic Brit and SoCal punk.

> what special items would you want to share with the gang?

Pictures of my kids.

> what items would you be too embarrassed to share?

it.

Anyone who is into the blues.

> who do you think you will engage in conversation with until 3 am?

Sorry, I have to leave at 11.
