I miss my blue corduroy bellbottoms the most. Mom practically lived @
Mervyns during the 70s and Mervyns had a whole wall of corduroy BBs. I
had blue, red, tan, brown, and orange pairs!!! I never wore jeans nor
the colors white & black back then.
When fashion changed to straight-leg pants I wore black jeans, leather,
camouflage- you name it- until relaxing into blue jeans in the late 80s.

I'm glad to see that platform shoes are back, I always loved
them, and still have several pairs from the 70s.

I liked the hip-hugger pants back when they were in style, but
on the other hand, the smallest pair at Pants Galore (*the*
place to buy hip-huggers) still were too big. *sigh* How I
**wish** I had that problem today!

I miss Levi's jeans. They've changed them and they aren't the same
anymore. I used to wear almost exclusively levis- they faded so
beautifully. But they changed the cut and design, and I just can't find a
pair of levi's that fit anymore. I miss wearing old, soft, faded levis.
They made my butt look great!

We shopped and hung out at (and shoplifted from) a clothing
place called "Dead Icecream". ?? Anyway when I see the kids,
mostly girls, wearing retro 70s stuff - girls with hiphuggers (do you
remember that was a brand name?) tube tops and platform
sandals - it 's a total flashback. (Unlike most posters here, I was
alive in the 70s - class of '77) Levi "Superstraights" were v.popular
- cords in everycolor and too stiff demin. Those and pocket Ts,
were my uniform in HS. And remember none brand name jeans?
Oh these poor kids today, plastered w/logo wear. It's depressing.

I can't believe how people actually pay $ to wear some logo! Companies
used to give T-shirts or hats or whatever away with their logo on them
and write 'em off as advertising. :-)

Hey, you reminded me of a promotion Lee Jeans had some time in the
70s. It was "cool" for us to have Lee Jeans with the tag (leather
square) absolutely torn/ripped off the back. If we saved enough of the
logos and sent them in, we could win something. If we didn't win, we
got $ off our next purchase. Now that advertising!!!!

Yeah but they THINK that that makes them cool. Even to the point of pulling
up your underwear and pulling down your pants so people can see that you
wear Calvin Klown underwear. They think the name gives them some status by
association. If you wonder where this came from think Brook Shields, or
Gloria Vanderbilt, or Sasson in the '70s. That's where they got it from.

I won't wear em...I'll be damned if I'm gonna go around lookin' like a
walking billboard. Occasionally there'll be a small type of
logo that doesn't bother me...but 95% of the time I won't wear it.

One principle I practice all the time, that I learned in the streets, is you
dont mess with people. You really dont know what is on the other side of the
mirror. I have good relations with all of the people here and I dont need
somebody trying to ridicule me looking to start some HARD feelings where
none had previously existed.

here's a synopsis
============================
Hilarious, moving, and brilliantly on-target, Tom Perrotta's debut
story collection explores the unforgettable life and times of a
teenager of the '70s, grappling with the timeless mysteries of sex,
death, parents, and, of course, bad haircuts.
============================

> I'm an oils artist. I do other styles, but my best is Impressionism.

I liked your work. I've studied in art schools in NY (3 really) and in
Europe. When I first started out, I called myself an artist in front of a
fellow student. She said, "Never call yourself an artist, you're a
painter". Do want you want with that info. She went on to have her
work selected for MoMA's (the Museum of Modern Art in NYC)
permanent collection.

Thank you Dawna. See, it would have been taken differently if I had had
conversation with this guy in the past, but out of the gate for the first
time..... My Brooklyn was showing. I wanted to tell him about the
relationship with his maternal half, that I usually dont speak of. And ask
him outside...through the window. That's what we would have done in the
street but that's not our style here. So if this person gets sarcastic with
me for no reason I'll just ignore. I stand on my past communications with
the group. Besides, maybe it was a lame attempt at starting a conversation.

Nope,
"our" style here is to post lame-o comments - and when someone
points that out - hit them with the "F" word, name calling, clumsily
veiled threats of violence and absurd "You really don’t know what
is on the other side of the mirror" postings. Demooch, you're pretty
quick with your maliciousness. And I love the girls coming running
to your rescue. It’s all very encouraging. Just remember women, if
you plan to meet The Wanderer in person, this guy with the razor
wit and the time to share his brilliant witticisms with this ng over
700 times (seven HUNdred!), don't forget to tell your love ones just
what you want done with your remains - after they dig them out of
the basement of his mother’s house. I'm not the bad guy. I'm the
sane guy.

Rick FYI: you know the thing about the Dion CD box collection
being called "Abraham, Martin, and Rosie on my Chest"?

It's a joke. From the streets of NY.

Thanks for the help there, but I wouldn't want to be confused with
those who do a wonderful job slapping latex on a house, so you see, I

Thanks recsec. It's good to have friends, although not everyone would know
that. I ignore people like this new pussy-ski character. And in case
anyone's interested about any meet up that might be planned...I've heard all
the horror stories about the net. This is why I want several of us to get
together at one time, there's safety in numbers (not like I would need
others for that kind of help). And, I want the meet up to be held in a
public place, again safety in numbers. If you check my posts I have invited
everyone who is in the northeast who might be interested. And I dont know
how many times I've posted here, I dont have THAT kind of time on my hands
where I can count posts. But I DO come home from work and spend an hour or
two reading the posts of my friends and those couple of other people who
post here. Then if I think of a response to some of the other posts (which
is not hard, obviously, if your brain is on) I post my answer. We area very
diverse group of people here. From all over North America, and some from
England. It's amazing that WE all can get along, and well. And, I might add:
with respect, although sometimes tongue in cheek. Then a newbie comes along
and taunts and challenges. People defend, and they cant understand others
standing by your side. It is sad. Oh, and my mother's basement would have to
be the dirt underneath her casket because she died on Nov. 3 1989.

I was a kid in the 70's (born 1/67)....was anyone else into t-shirts that you'd
get made at those decal/shirt places? You know, stores with names like
"Crazyshirt" or "Chickenshirt". You'd pick out the color and style t-shirt
you wanted, etc., and they had 100's of decals to choose from (everything from
"Super Star" glittery designs, to Kroft Super Show, to cartoons/slogans, to
unicorns & rainbows, etc). I also remember having your name on your shirt was
very big.

I especially remember of having a Crumb cartoon with Keep on Trucking and my
name right on the front. Dork. I was nine.

Oh boy, that was THE place to go! Our main one was called Hot Tops. What a
treat it was to go get a shirt and pick out the decals and the lettering for
the back. My favorite one was a glittery decal of a huge bunch of hot air
balloons. It was so colorful. It was also cool to get matching t-shirts with
a friend. What a total 70s memory!

Hmm...what year did that happen and which town/city did you live in?

I was able to wear my two favorite shirts with the decal "Musicians do
it with rhythm", and "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" and none of my
teachers said anything about it.

I even had a chat with the principal of the school many times while
wearing these shirts :)

Also, my government teacher (an Italian/American from NYC) told me that
I have every right to wear this shirt as long as it doesn't have a
four-letter word on it :)

I lived in Beaverton, Oregon (a suburb of Portland). It was in '78, IIRC.
The shirt had a woman in bondage on her knees with tape over her mouth. I
still have the shirt, although it's mighty tight now :-).

Hell no! In 1970 I was 19 and worked at The Post Office where as long as you
weren't in a position to deal with the public the First Amendment was
respected. They didn't bother you about what you wore as long as it didn't
cause a danger with the machinery, and you could wear your hair any way you
liked. All of my friends had big afros or very long hair. When I look back
at the old pictures I took we look something like a cross between Sly and
The Family Stone & Santana (at Woodstock). And we were just as high. One
friend of mine wore a T shirt with a cartoon of two pigs going at it with
smiles on their faces that said "Makin' Bacon".

You can go to ANY urban "gay dress shop" and you'd be able to find bike
leather. You can also find all the "usual accessories" that go with it.

Well Naz, my friend, since I dont frequent gay dress shops I really didn't
know that. But there are a lot of specialty shops where I hang out in
Greenwich Village that sells the usual S&M type gear. I dont frequent those
joints either but they're not hard to miss. I do buy stuff from Biker
leather stores, and outlets. So we share some styles, if NOT lifestyles. Ces
la vie. (Also there are differences between what I was refering to and what
the gays and leftover punks wear.)

Buddy, I don't frequent places like those, either! I was just informing
you guys that there are lots of leather goods and leather "accessories"
(LOL!) in "gay clothing stores" :-) I never said that I go there and/or
buy stuff there.

I do wear some leather, but just the "normal" stuff you can buy in any
mall shop :-)

Buddy...I'm from Northern Virginia (read: we don't wear gas masks just
to breathe the air here!) not New York City! LOL!

I'd bet that you can run around naked in NYC with a cockring (!) and
people probably wouldn't even pay attention to you, am I right? Well,
it's not like that here. The police would probably yank that "thing"
and make you bend....oh, never mind :)

Anyhow...a lot of people think that I'm fashionable, but somewhat
conservative (no, I *still* don't look like a prep!) I'm even
uncomfortable wearing a tank top on a very hot, summer day (I wear one
UNDER my shirt and LET LOOSE on a rare occasion..LOL!) I do, however,
notice that all EYES are on me when I do that...hmm :) Hell, I don't
even wear my earring anymore like I did back in the late 80s! So...I
guess that should tell ya that I'm not the slutty-looking fag you think
I am! LOL!

Anyhow, I'm sure all these will become obsolete once I hit the big 4-0.
'Til then I think I'll pretend I'm still a "good, Catholic boy" from
*Holy Trinity Academy* (my school from kindergarten to 4th grade). :-)

Hey Naz I also am an escapee from a Catholic Penitent.......er, School. I
went from kindergarden to the 9th Grade. I was asked to leave after the 9th
because I failed 3 foreign languages Latin, Algebra, & Biology. But in my
homeroom was the son of the Congessman from my area (who later became
Governor). He failed 5 subject. We were allowed to make up two in
summerschool. I only passed bio. This still left me down 2 and that was the
rule 2 and you're gone. Hughie failed 5 went to summerschool and didn't pass
either. Next year I was in Public High School (the one that the movie
Blackboard Jungle was about) when one day I chance to see Hughie. He was
wearing his Catholic High School team sweater. I said Hi and asked why he
was wearing the sweater. He said I still go to -------------. I said How? He
said "Did your father donate $5,000 to the school?" I said No and he said
"That's how?" And I didn't necessarily picture you as a "slutty looking
fag". I just kind of thought from your descriptions in the past, of your
look and attitude, that you might be a "little flamboyant" LOL.
And I've never wore a cockring in my life. What's it
like?LOL
