I was always a big fan of George Carlin, dating back to the early
70's. But I do think he became quite bitter in his later years. His
routines lost much of their humor and became rants. Years ago, he
used cuss words to make comments about how we use words. More
recently, he seemed to cuss all the time just for the hell of it. His
bits used to give me belly laughs. His more recent stuff generated an
occassional grin, but the laughs are gone.

Perhaps the country is more hopeless now than in the 70's. And there
is plenty out there to rant about. But I have to admit, as sorry as I
am to see George pass on, I liked his old stuff much better.

Bill, I agree. His approach to, - and description of, - reality were
truly the work of genius. I believe that people like him often end up
competing with their younger selves, and ultimately paying a price when
they lose.

It's the stuff of Greek tragedy.

Mike.
