Today, the Pirates put up a fight, & tied the game in the 8th. Whereupon
the Cubs just sort of routinely hit a couple of homers, & that was that.
There's a song that Steve Goodman wrote many years ago, a kind of Cubs
Fight Song, that has currency this year & is played after each Cubs home
win, which is four out of five games. You can hear it at the bottom of

I had the pleasure of attending his concerts on a few occasions, & a
better time was not to be had. The guy was just infectious with his
sheer joy of performing. A friend of mine attended a Kris Kristopherson
concert back in the 70s where Goodman opened the act. The audience would
not let him leave so Kristopherson could come on.
Extra bonus: Goodman's "Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" is also at the
site. His ashes are variously reported as having been scattered at
Wrigley Field, and buried under home plate. I'm a home plate guy,
myself.
Goodman died of leukemia in 1984. To give you some idea of the guy, he
called himself "Cool Hand Leuk."
And BTW, he wrote City of New Orleans, and IMHO his recorded version is
better than Guthrie's.
