Hi all. Can anyone tell me what the Maltese word and spelling is for
the English word brute is (as in brute force)? My parents are from
Malta but they left back in 1950 and don't know the word. I would
hazard to guess it's the same as the Italian which is bruta. But I
want to confirm with a native speaker.

Thanks.

I don't believe there is an actual Maltese translation for 'brute force' (as in
brute force algorithm). It certainly hasn't been used in education - we would
just use the English "brute force"..
I did look it up in my Aquilina dictionary and it actually gives
"forza brutali" as brute force, which would mean brutal force (the wrong
meaning!).
BTW, "bruta" isn't in the dictionary.
On the other hand brute (by itself) should translate to salvagg (savage).

Best regards,
Clyde

Another word for brute would be bhima (ie a beast).
