What would North Korea gain by sending missiles to bomb Fairbanks, Anchorage
or any place in Hawaii? Nothing, but international outrage and the desire
to retaliate. A Chihuahua attacking a St. Bernard? KM

Depends on what their long term goals are. If their long terms goals is to
develop a longer range missile, then we should be concerned, but that also
depends on why they are developing this capability, and what is the threat
to the United States and the interests of the United States and the world
(not only for those countries who are close to North Korea, but the world as
a whole). It also depends on what would happen "if" they used this
capability carrying a nuclear warhead, and what we could do about it, "if"
they did that. It also raises the question is it smart to cut back on our
efforts to develop a missile defense system, when countries like North Korea
are hell bent on having the ability to launch missiles which can carry
nuclear warheads?

It is not what they may be capable of in the near term, it is what they may
be capable of doing in the long term that counts, and what their ultimate
goal is.

Yes, indeed. And any long-term situation is yet to be determined until
there is a regime change, which even then might not yield permanent or
unchanging goals. There's no predicting lunatics. KM
