Some years ago I saw the making of the film and it had some nice effects (I
love CB's "Nightbreed".)
But there is a terrible videomarket here in Norway. Old films (especially
cult-classics) is nowhere to be found. (Maybe som small *very well hidden*
video-import-stores, but I don't know of anyone). Splatters are almost banned.
(I got a 'shock' when I saw 'Army Of Darkness', 'Bad Taste' and 'BrainDead'
(Dead Alive) in the video-stores. I think those are the only 'splatter' movies
in official rental in Norway.)
(It could be some names-differences here. Often they rename English/American
titles to another English/American title... SICK!)
examples:
The professional = Leon (also used in UK ?)
Fatal Instinct=Crazy Instinct
While talking about names: Why is there so many differences in film-titles?
(This is international i think ?)
I think I've seen 'Braindead' with three different titles.
(Braindead, Dead Alive, and another one...)
And also 'Highlander 3' have I seen with different titles:
Highlander 3 : The (next/other) dimention (I'm not 100% about this)
Highlander 3 : The sorcerer
Highlander 3 : The magician
What's the point ?

I don't think Clive Barker had anything to do with this. There is a film
called SOCIETY directed by Brian Yuzna, and it is IMO well worth tracking
down.

Special effects by Screaming Mad George!
It is an excellent example of the "just because you're paranoid, doesn't
mean they aren't out to get you" plot, with the bonus of a completly OTT
sfx finale!

I assume you're talking about the same movie that is called
Transmutations in the US. As a fan of Nightbreed and Hellraiser, I would
say no, don't buy it. Sure, go ahead and rent if you can so you can make
up your own mind. But personally I found it extremely dull and it's one of
those few movies that made so little impression on me that I don't even
remember at all what it's about. Barker himself hates the film and says
that it bares little resemblance to his script. I believe he said that
only seven words of dialogue were his. (He was also upset about Rawhead
Rex, which is from the same producers but isn't nearly as bad.)

Oh, shit... Here I have, year after year, thought it was a film by Clive
Barker. I really don't understand why I thought about him. I didn't know
anything about him at that time...

OK... Phil Martin said that he thought Clive Barker had nothing to do with
'Society' (The films title here in Norway, and since it's not a Norwegian
word, I pressume it is the name used in Europe/UK).
What I remember from the cut was a real huge 'group-sex'-scene with a lot of
slime and people 'melted' together. And a really funny cut where a mans face
comes out of his behind saying - 'Well, you did always say a was an asshole'
(or similar).
Some nice fx! ;)

I haven't seen Brian Yuzna's movie Society, and like I said
Transmutations was completely forgettable. But I just realized that the
alternate title I've heard for Transmutations is "Underworld," not
Society. So maybe you are thinking of the Brian Yuzna movie. (This is
getting confusing!)

This is without a doubt the Brian Yuzna movie.
> Some nice fx! ;)
Yep -- my previous comment stands. It has been released on PAL VHS, but I
don't know if it is still "in print". If you have problems tracking it
down, mail me.

Yes, I'm sorry I brought up this subject.
It may even happen that I'm mistaking the films title.
(I saw this a couple of years ago)

Thank you for your answer...
I and a couple of friends went to Sweden today. There I found Society (wth
Swedish subtitles)... I think I have seen the cover somewhere in Norway, but
with another title. Anyway: I bought the movie, so I am watching it right now.
It is (as somebody said) a film by Brian Yuzna, and FX by Screaming Mad George.
The main character is played by Billy Warlock (who also played in a lot of the
'Baywatch' episodes...(Don't remember wich character he played in
Babewatch...))
