If this is the 1970's movie where Alec Guiness does a god-AWFUL portrayal of Hitler, then it is out on video. However, your time would be better spent watching THE BUNKER, a made-for-TV film in which Anthony Hopkins gives a MUCH, MUCH superior performance as Hitler.

Does either of these films have something to do with the book "Die Katakombe - Das Ende in der Reichskanzlei" or "The Bunker - The last days of Adolf Hitler" (freely translated from finnish to english) by Uwe Bahnsen and James P. O'Donnell
I haven't read the book yet, but the beginning of it looked quite interesting.

You have no idea what a god-awful performance as Hitler is, until you watch Richard Basehart <yup, from "Voyage To the bottom Of the Sea>, essay the role in "Hitler!". Pretty damn funny if you ask me. Pax --Judex--

I've seen this one and it is beyond bad. I think that even MST3K's Gypsy would be embarrassed by the mis-casting.

>But Gypsy liked it!
For the uninformed, Gypsy is one of the Robots on "Mystery Science Theatre 3000", and she has a massive crush on Mr. Basehart.
I think she would faint from shock if she ever saw Richard screaming "You Filthy Slut!" at Eva Braun, in a terrible german accent. Maltin claims that Basehart brings a freudian interpretaition to the role, but I think that says more about Maltin than this hilarious film.
TNT showed it a few weeks back on 100% Weird, part of "Weird Nazis" night, I guess. I thought it was tasteless. Pax --Judex--

>Better or worse than that guy in "The Producers"?
Definately worse, since LSD <Dick Shawn> was supposed to be terrible. And he was consistently funny. <"Love Power"!>
Basehart is pretty amusing, but it is kinda slow, and I think he is trying to be serious. The whole thing is, but like many of these trashy epics, they educate no one, and do a real disservice to the whole time period, whitewashing history. But Basehart does get some choice lines.

Yes, Basehart showed us the warm, sympathetic side of der Fuhrer. He was just misundertood (`You slut!'). And he does a mean Bogey impression!
In all fairness to history, the only simularity between Basehart's portrayal and reality was that there was actually a person named Hitler who ruled Germany and started a war, other than that...

you can't compare a bad movie with "The Producers". now how many shares of the play did you want to buy?
