I agree.
Without you nothing happens. Do you want to see if we can find some?
By the way, a lot of the group have gone to Face Book where they aren't
saying much either. Think we can scare them into Halloween?

over to check it out.
Where in the Meadow do the biggest pumpkins grow?

..Squirrel runs off and looks for pumpkins. After a while spies
one,.. it is a bit piddly but starts dragging it,.. then spies another
flash of orange and goes to investigate.
It is a big BIG BIGGG BIGGGGGGGGG PUMPKIN.
Suddenly Squirrel sees the flaw in the plan.
It is.. rather big.

Alright!! Where are the butterflies???????????????????????

It does look that way although Sir Alex and Sir Tim and one or two others do
stop in once or twice. I have been totally swamped with real life so have
not been able to post that much either.
A boss went to India for a month and another person who works with me went
to Australia before he got back. At one point I was covering for four
people. I also handle burglar alarm calls for the stores and they have
motion detectors and it is migration time for Mexican free tail bats. I
enjoy bats but if they would just be sure to go out without passing the
motion detector......

Elf takes Squirrel up on her challenge but runs by the Face Book group on
the way to mention we are looking for pumpkins in case anyone wants to join
us and help paint faces on them. Them being pumpkins or Cuddlers who want a
new look.

Well these days Monarch Butterflies are migrating past my window. They have
been migrating all month but around 9 this morning there were three or four
at a time trying to find a place to land as a cold front came through and
stalled letting the wind die.
We have post oaks here which have a waxy rounded leaf so when the poor
butterfly tries to land a great deal of the time they slip off. Once they
do land and fold their wings they disappear from view unless there are a lot
together.
We have a flash flood warning until 7 tomorrow night so they will probably
wait under cover around here for a day or two. Want me to send them your
way?
The more the merrier!!!
Aarrrgh! Oh very funny.
That is good though. More more more.... I have been collecting
candles. Do you think just white ones or should I get some black
candles and maybe some red ones as well?
And lookee lookee!! I have been making raked leaf bales all tied
neatly with silver web so people have something to sit on around the
fire... and oh well they can be used to fuel the fire as well.
..off to get some firewood and pine cones...
(off bounds a bedraggled Squirrel with web trailing from an eager
tail..)
..oh, and hi!

Elf walks over to the bee hives and politely asks the honeybees if he may
have some bees wax for candles. The queen bee makes a trade of bees wax for
a wind break to help cut down on cold draughts during the winter.
Elf cuts the bees wax into sheets going across the grain rather than with it
so he can see into each cell of the slice of wax. He then rolls the pieces
into a long tube around a wick so the candles can be cut to whatever length
is needed. These candles are much more decorative then the ones made by
melting wax but melted wax does provide a use for the cell caps. The caps
keep the honey from oozing all over making a sticky mess or keeps the baby
bees from falling out of their cradle.

I wonder if Sir Alex has some good firewood? When I was in Wyoming at
college we had a tiny ice skating ring someone built on the front lawn of
the dorm and next to it a bonfire. I remembered that fire when Sir Alex
mentioned the freezing temperatures in Michigan a few weeks ago.

Chestnuts for eating and roasting or playing the game they do in Great

Elf looks around for a tree to check its bark but then figures this is the
wrong part of the world for cinnamon so heads to the Cuddleland General
Store and picks up some apple cider while he is there. Hot cider is good
with cinnamon sticks and hot donuts.

Now who has a dragon who might have fireworks?
Candles look great!. Think Misty the Red Dragon has fireworks.
Been collecting fire twigs, logs (puff) and stray potatoes ... even
found some scraps of aluminium foil!!! Oh and a sackful of pine cones
(borrowed your skateboard ok huh?), and some branches of rosemary.
Found an old cauldron too. Bit of clean and we can put the pumpkin
scraps from carving the pumpkins in it and make soup.... or do we just
throw stuff into some of the hollowed pumpkins, close the lids and
cook them in the fire. Does that work? Chestnuts for roasting.
Optional. Have some sugar to make toffee to coat some other nuts with
- maybe roast them in a pan over the fire? Skewers for cooking
vegetables over bonfire. Anything else?
Oh yeah, witch's hat.

As long as it is just for riding and moving things and stuff borrowing the
skateboard is fine but watch out for that hill. Yeah, the hill that goes

Wow, you have been working hard! Rosemary is tough but very pretty this

Ummm, "no". If you carve a jack o lantern and after removing seeds and
stuff use a candle for light inside then put the top back on the candle
chars the cap and pumpkin is not yummy.
Remains good for fruit flies though. Are any spiders hungry?
Chestnuts for roasting.

It does work I know in an oven. Have cooked a mince stew in a pumpkin
before, just not sure if also works in a real open bonfire.

Ok, you are on roasting the chestnuts and other nuts. I have ordered
by butterfly express some pecan tarts mmmm.... wonder if they have
arrived yet.
Squirrel goes to look, pausing at the cauldron on the way from which
water and pumpkin pieces are beginning to steam. Adds pepper, garlic
and secretly a little well washed pebble as Squirrel has heard that
the secret ingredient of the best soup is a little stone.
Continues on to find that the pecan pie has been carefully deposited
on a log stump. There are also 3 medium sized black cauldrons near
the pie. The first one is overflowing with aniseed flavoured jelly
spiders. Squirrel doesn't like aniseed so peeks over the second
cauldron's side. Inside it is filled to the brim with white milk
bottle worms. Mmmm, not bad thinks Squirrel nibbling on one, but
seeing a flash of colour from the third cauldron and hurries on
over... yes it is filled with fruit jelly flavoured worms. YUM! By
the time Squirrel goes back to check on the arrival of the second
pecan tart, it seems that this last cauldron is not as full as the
others...

That sounds like fun. The difference between an oven and an open fire is
the burning. Combustion has 2 by products, water vapor and C02 which come
from the rapid oxidation of the fuel. In other words, if you put your
pumpkin in flame without protection you destroy or oxidize it.

Before we all get stoned remember the secret to stone soup is that the stone
is removed before eating.
Hard on teeth otherwise.
Elf hears creaking sounds so he makes sure nothing will burn or anything and
goes to investigate. He has to stop and hand out treats to the children as
he goes so he slowly makes his way to a rock ledge and leans against the
rock. Surprisingly the rock moves and there is a glint of gold.

up from the depths but more interesting are the cooking utensils near at

Elf pulls out a gold frying pan and a silver coffee service along with a
