Does someone please have a recipe for how to make vanilla?  I think you need a
vanilla bean and bourbon?  I can't find one anywhere and if you have one to
share I would appreciate it if you would email it to me.
thanks a lot!

Well, I know one thing - there is no such thing as vanilla beans. Vanilla
comes from the inside of the plants culm. In Denmark you can buy the dry
culms and scrape out the "dust" yourself. That is the right vanilla and the
best. I think, that what you are used to is some kind of essence - mayby
artificial.

Here's a recipe that I found for you to try.  I am sending it to both
the newsgroups and to your email addy.  This is great for gifts for
the holiday with a few recipes for cookies using the vanilla.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: HOMEMADE VANILLA-BOTTLED GIFTS
 Categories: Condiments, Gifts, Mixes, Alcohol
      Yield: 1 Recipe

           High quality bourbon
           Fresh vanilla beans

Mix some medium good to high quality BOURBON with a few FRESH
VANILLA BEANS.  Cut open beans length-wise (slit them). Put in a
big crock or jar with bourbon (lots). Let age for 2-3 months.
  Transfer to smaller bottles.

FOR GIFTS: Decorate with cute label and red/green ribbon.
This is good homemade vanilla. Include a recipe using Vanilla
  (cookies, french toast, etc.)

Some people like to make vanilla using vodka instead of bourbon.

Judi's notes: This doesn't say how many vanilla beans to use, but
I would guess about 8 or 9 would do it.
