Phil Heath bought it as part of a collection of old tools but we have never
seen a tool like this and haven't yet figured out what it was used for.

Tom Latane' and Peter Ross are having some serious blacksmithing classes at the Tunnel Mill craft school just south of Rochester, Mn. I have taken training from both of them and they are top notch.

heat treating pry bar

I have a 5/8",30" long pry bar that has a messed up 'wedge' end. Getting it the right shape using a forge would be no problem. But returning its strength is beyond my knowledge.

Gentleman that used to work (seaman) and live on Vancouvere Island, and then moved to the Canadian 'maritimes'. He was much help to me a few years ago and I lost contact with him. ASBSAA (?) could not locate him a few years back.. . chas in Montana.

I need some reccommended blacksmithing books.
What my current primary interests now are;
tempering,
identifying steels (sparks, ect)
annealing.

What do you know about Decarb of steel?

I ran into some trouble making fire strikers work properly late this summer.
I have been making them for a long time and all of a sudden they quit working. Using brand new 3/16" X 1/4" W1 from MSC. The trouble SEEMED to start when I got into a new 3 foot bar.
