Folks, we just passed the two-year mark for "alt.corel", and I just wanted
to make note of it since I missed it on the actual date (Aug. 14).
For those who weren't here when this group was originally chartered, I'd
like to mention that Bill Cameron -- whom most active posters (but
possibly not some of the lurkers) might know from the Corel groups -- was
the originator of this group. While my name is on the cmsg for the group,
it was Bill who did the hard work of finding out how to create an alt
group (and then, we actually ended up "retro-chartering" a pre-existing
group that was rather dormant), drafting the original charter, and facing
the happy group of configgers in alt.config to find out whether this was a
hot idea or a dud (and whether we should have named it differently,
attempted to put it into another hierarchy, or simply bypassed the whole
process by sending enough beer to the folks who have no authority but
plenty of intimidation-at-hand to help us make it work or not). [My own
role was to finish carrying it through alt.config and arguing with Adam,
and posting the cmsg which took me 2 tries because my fingers refused to
type "newgroup" instead of "newsgroup" after all those years on the Corel
server.
Thank you, Bill Cameron.
And thanks to everyone else (we started with 73, but I suspect the list
has grown quite a bit -- and if you're posting but Christine doesn't have
your information, please send it to her!) for keeping this an active,
interesting, and contentious but thought-provoking group.
And anyone who hasn't done so -- head on over to http://www.altcorel.info
and read up on the group, add your name to the "guest map", and find out
why Our Esteemed Candidate is the one to vote for in the November
Presidential elections! (If you time your bribes right, there are still a
few open cabinet posts up for grabs, I hear.)
Thanks again, to all.
